I am traveling all over the country doing on-site software consulting for local governments.

Don't really want to mention the company name here - too bad the lounge isn't password protected anymore!

unemployed slacker. I've now moved on to the 'hard' setting on guitar hero. Before that, I was an associate chemist, r&d, for a company that make sealants and surface prep materials.

Technically I'm a DBA, but in reality I sit in front of a computer screen all day slowly letting my brain go numb while the hope of some interesting work fades ever closer to oblivion.

I really wish I had an interesting job, but the interesting ones just don't pay as well as the stupidly boring ones.

Maybe one day...

also the stinky ones.

i dropped out of college because i felt it was, much like high school, day care for adolescents.

i worked for firestone for a year as a mechanic and am now going to NADC to get a shitty tech school diploma and all of my ASE certifications (should have master tech by february of next year.).

technical systems manager...I would say I am the IT manager...but it goes beyond that (if it is electronic or security related in any capacity, it is in my domain).

Best job I have ever had. People are great and the pay is pretty good too

Just changed jobs - supporting student management software for a large public school district in NY.

Pay's better but the boredom factors has increased tenfold. Guess I'll be here more often. I'm working at the same company I worked for when I started coming to this board in '99.

I used to be an Oracle DBA, back in 96-97. It was pretty interesting back then but I think the task is less so now because of all the automated monitoring software you can get. Sure, it was around back then too, but I think it's more advanced now. However, I value the knowledge and experience I gained as a DBA and I really like working with databases (something I don't really do now). I would like to get back into that now that the arse has fallen out of RFID.

Long time no see guys.

Currently working as an Account Manager for a large outsourcing/logistics firm near Dallas. (Out of IT, but deal with JD Edwards on a daily basis) Was in IT for 3 years, made it up to System Administrator before the company went under. Also was a contractor for FEMA after Katrina.

I like IT and wouldn't mind getting into consulting upon finishing my MBA, but not sure how much I want to get back into it. I hate the desk job with a passion...realized that recently. Have plans on getting my personal training certifications and start doing that at night/on the side.

Good jorb rvr!

I'm sittin' pretty at the U of Waterloo. . . trying to remember why the hell I signed up for quantum physics without refreshing my linear algebra first.

But other than that, just living the life of a starving student. The pay sucks, and I miss the west coast ocean breezes and the mountains (it's too fucking flat out here, and it's not even the prairies). I did get awesome safety goggles because I did the Frosh week stuff (I'm a second year transfer so I didn't have to). So I've got that going for me.

Not so fancy, but there's a reason I haven't been as grumpy in a few years as I was (besides - we already got a "grumpy" here ). I'm working in the IT business Rogue~ - it's a small software distributor in Norway (+ we started up in Sweden a year ago) - we're selling software for a global vendor and associated services (training, implementation, consulting, configuration, adaptions, add-ons, etc.).

I might be looking for new pastures soon, however. It's been 9 years already - it might be time to move on

Hey, wow. I haven't seen this thread since January.

Congrats to rvr. I remember playing the demo for Just Cause and being mostly impressed. You're with a group that has some amazing potential.

Me, I'm back to designing synthetic rubber compounds for adhesive and sealant applications. I may have even had a hand in developing the potting compounds grumpy probably uses (although knowing who he works for, that's unlikely).

Mmmmm, zombies.

I'm the lead "Web Architect" for a pair of colleges in central California. Basically, I tell our operations guys how to configure our web servers, I write software to support distance education systems, and I tell all of our web content and design people that they're doing their jobs wrong.

At the moment, I'm writing an authenticated C# based YouTube clone from scratch (including automated video transcoding). I'd hardly call my job fun, but I enjoy the fact that it's a challenge and that I'm constantly doing different things. It could be worse...I could be a DBA.

Well you all remember me, or at least most of you do. Im the gun slinging, hill billy cracker redneck from the hills. Err I was LOL. I am now married to a beautiful Mexican women and I have 8 kids (3 hers, 4 mine and one of ours) and doing ok in this job crunch. I am currently going back to college for a degree in City & Regional Planning. With all my years in construction and transportation, I figured it would fit to my skills. I still live in California in the central valley and live not far from Drako. I still love to drink beer and play online games though. My favorite, atm (3 years) is WOW (World of Warcraft). Other than that, I'm doing fine and its good to see you all back on the board.
