I own two PSP's actually.. one with the latest firmware, for playing the real games:Right now, I'm playing Tales of Etnernia. Before that, Lord of the Rings tactics. Before that, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories Before that, Colin McRae.. uhm.. 5? 4? The one that's on psp. Before that, a lot (lot) of Metal Gear AC!D (get it if you like trading cards games) Before that, Wipeput Pure Before that, not so much, no. The other PSP, I keep at firmware 1.5, and use as a portable NES/SNES with a homebrew emulator. SNES still runs a bit too slow to be fun, but rpgs are fine. I even played some SCUMM VM on my vacation, but most of those games really need a mouse. [edit: fixed a typo, but added another, hidden typo! find it! it's a challenge!] [ 03-17-2006: Message edited by: RaverBoy ] -------------------- No more annoying sig! =D

Ah, so because not everyone owns it and it's not a "runaway success", it's a failure?I know more people who own a PSP than I know people who own a DS. I am aware that that doesn't mean it's sold more than the DS (heck, the DS has SOLD more than the PSP has SHIPPED), but by no means is it a jaguar-level "failure". Is the XBox considered a failure because it sold (way, WAY) less than PS2? What about the gamecube? They've got a bigger section for PSP (albeit with UMD movies included) than they have for PC in my local game store. Does that mean that PC as a gaming machine is a failure? Now, N-Gage.. THAT was a failure. -------------------- No more annoying sig! =D

Sony intends to dominate the handheld market the same way they dominate the console market. They haven't done this. The DS has outsold the PSP and Sony has not met its goal. Like it or not, here are the numbers___---___---___-DS___PSP Up to March: 1,650,895 618,000 April:___---___- 50,000 351,000 May:___---___--57,000 250,000 June:___---___112,000 294,000 July:___---___ 102,000 202,000 August:___---_103,000 167,000 September:__--164,000 146,000 October:-_--_--136,000 127,000 November:__---370,000 353,000 Total:___-___2,744,895 2,500,000 Nintendo has proven that there is second place in the handheld market only if the company that occupies it is willing to absorb the losses to stay there. If Sony doesn't get good software to back up what is really good hardware, its going to die. Even if Sony does make the right move, Nintendo seems to poop out a new Gameboy every other year. Given Sony's current inability to deliver the PS3 on time, I doubt they can handle that kind of hardware generation turnover as easily as Nintendo already can. --------------------

So selling 91% of the market leader ("next gen" handhelds, I mean. The GBA micro sells far more than even the DS) is failing? You REALLY like monopolies, don't you? ;-) I'll give you the software bit, though. Nintendo's really managed to inspire developers to innovate with the DS.

I'm gonna have to go with 'defective PSP' on that one, but I admit that a lot of the load times are really annoying. I picked up burnout revenge and in one of the play modes you crash cars for points. The problem is, each crash attempt takes about 1 minute max from start to finish; not a big deal because it's fun, but it takes over a minute to load each event! So for > 50% of the time you're playing, you're waiting on a load screen if you wanna play the crash mode! Honestly, I understand that discs are cheaper to produce and allow for the 'movies on PSP' vision, but in a portable system there is NO excuse for the detrimental effect disc usage has on battery life and load times. I'm not even gonna get started on why I would shell out money for PSP movies when I could buy a portable DVD player with a much larger screen for a fraction of the cost of a PSP...
