No but it does introduce a seemingly large amount of failures.Say that there were 900 failures. All of them posted about it in one day. Now if those 900 were spread out over 4 months no one would notice. It is all in the way you look at the numbers. -------------------- Yep it really is me.

Or the xbox 360 just plainly sucks. If this much problems was found in the first couple of days, just imagine what it'll do in the first YEAR. Or even worse; the day after the warranty runs out. -------------------- No more annoying sig! =D

Good call, raver. Bet you haven't even played one. Before you think launch glitches will indicate the quality of the entire line, maybe you should do a little researchThe DVD drive of the orginal Xbox grinded the data side of discs. That hasn't been a problem since launch 4 years ago. Playstation 2 had a software defect that allowed the console to play DVDs from foreign regions. The SCEI forced them to recall the discs and re-release patched software. The Dreamcast launch was plagued by incorrectly-burned game discs, rendering them unplayable by the machine. None of this means the flaws are acceptable, but everyone that has a problem can exchange it. Its well within the standard 90-day warranty. 90 day warranty? That's it? Of all the things they could have taken from the original xBox, they took THAT.-------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

I LOVE you for saying that. That's why I'm still playing Quake2.

the XBox 360 is the least impressive console in the history of gaming. It's even less interesting than the first XBox, and that says a lot about how fucked the 360 is. But, yeah, have fun playing your "fun games" on it. :-) -------------------- No more annoying sig! =D

Acid bases his statements on his first hand experience with operating system design, tcp/ip network programming, kernel encryption libraries, and Microsofts GET TEH FAX ad campaign.Seriously, don't go there. Let's just leave it at "Windows let's me run <insert proprietary software suite here>," because that's all it's got on any implementation of Unix. Don't believe me? Read a book. -------------------- http://quake2world.net

I sure hope you know more about Windows than Acid does about Linux to make that kind of statement or your arguments are just as moot. burb - MS has kept a small percentage of units on hand to replace defective ones. Maybe you should do some reading next time. I'm enjoying my XBox. Kameo and Call of Duty 2 is fun. [ 11-28-2005: Message edited by: Flux ] --------------------

It was somewhere between 12 and 20 pages. I touched on the driver subsystems, memory management, network stack implementations, kernel-mode execution and interrupt servicing, io scheduling, deadlock and process starvation handling with the various scheduling algorithms available (well, Linux offers several), and finally modularity (read: separation of graphical subsystem from core OS components). It's not as tho that's the only time I've spent studying the two, either. So yea, I probably know more about the two than you, Flux/Acid (especially since you're too scared to learn a Unix - where would you be without your mighty mouse?) http://crux.nu/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/About You see that page? You see the second name on that list? Are you aware that I hosted CRUXCon this year, the project's annual development conference? Bah, I'm not gonna argue the point that I'm justified in holding an educated opinion regarding the two platforms. I know that I am. I was only making a joke in this thread. Acid, STFU. I can't stand it when people who don't know dick about GNU/Linux spread FUD. It pisses me off. Know what you're talking about before you throw blanket statements around. You look stupid. RB - Kent State was nothing but Red Hat. All my assignments had to compile in GNU C++ or the professors wouldn't even look at them. Spent 4 years dealing with that and learning a Linux operating system. If you're going to count academic experience, then I'd mention my semester-long operating systems class which used a big-ass 1,000-page book discussing common implementations of everything you mentioned and then some. Then there were the 4 coding projects where we had to (regretably) modify Nachos. And tests. Homework. Quizzes.... That's cool you hosted CRUXCon. It's fun to have side projects when in school. How many did it turn out? Broch - instead of dropping $400 into a video card, $150 into a new mobo, $200 on a new proc and $150 on enough RAM, I was essentially able to upgrade my platform of choice with just $400. It might not be for you, but I prefer to do it that way. When I get the money I'll throw some of it into a new rig, but for now this is where I chose to spend it. Its a better investment, IMO, because it won't be obsolete in a year (neither the PS3 nor the Revolution will perform more than marginally better than the 360, if that). And, fyi, you can't get any more low-rent than id games. 50 bucks for one play-through. I haven't bothered to play Doom III since I beat it. Halo 2, however, sees far more play time, especially since the MP doesn't suck. ----------- Kameo is still fun. I wish Call of Duty 2 would let you make parties with friends so you can bum from match to match with the same group of people. Aside from that, the game is much more fun than I had anticipated. I need to pick up Quake IV. --------------------

May want to examine that post a little closer Flux, looks to me like Bitch took an OS class as well, and the term paper was FOR that class. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.
