there's a dead laptop, which in addition to some more or less important picture files probably also contains personal stuff of some importance.so, ever plug a laptop HD to a desktop? What do I need? -------------------- quote: Originally posted by FS: Wow, I can't believe I'm agreeing with FS on this one

You might be able to find HD cases that use laptop HDs? Not sure.Initial Google search brought me to this http://www.casecooler.com/3drto2dr.html Search "laptop hard drive to IDE" I think I'll start local classes that teach people how to use Google. Something tells me there's a market for this. [ 10-29-2005: Message edited by: Flux ] --------------------

What josh said. Image for clarification. Instructions are dead simple. Connect to ribbon cable and power in desktop pc. Connect laptop HD to adapter (iirc, it's label side up for the HD and writing side up for the adapter) The drive draws power through the adapter. Enjoy. I was refering to a USB type so you don't have to open your computer's case and/or if you don't have a free IDE connection: http://www.xpcgear.com/usbideadapter.html They are only about $20.00 btw... Plus it does 2.5" (notebook), STD 3.5" and 5.25" optical drives, etc
