So I stayed with a friend of mine over Christmas break this past holiday season, only to get some bizarre skin rash. His apartment was an absolute pig sty, so its really no mystery how I got it. It never itched or anything, and it didn't go away, so I'm finally looking into what it is and how to get rid of it. I found info on it and how to treat it on WebMD. There's creams and shit, but there's also a pill for more severe cases. Check this out:

quote:
Antifungal pills may be taken in a single dose or once a day for 5 to 10 days. Because the medication comes to the surface of your skin through sweat, you'll get the best results if it is not washed off too soon. Your doctor may recommend that, after taking your antifungal pill, you exercise briskly and long enough to sweat, and then wait 12 hours to shower.

Now, I don't have a sense of smell, but I will sure feel bad for anyone around me that does.

pills are hardly ever prescribed for fungal infections. They're usually treated with tinctures and salves. It's usually only when topical treatments don't work that systemic treatments are attempted, due to the fact that fungi attack the body where there is very little bloodflow to carry the medication. And then there's the problem that since there's so little medication making it to the infection that high dosages must be used, which are usually hard on the liver and kidneys.

Get some shampoo with selenium sulfide in it (Selsun Blue). Lather up and allow it to remain in contact with your skin for at least 5 minutes (preferably 15). Do this daily for a week or 2.

Willy is right...systemic antifungals are very hepato-toxic, and are generally only used after topical medications fail. Additionally, they take quite a bit of time to work. Depending on the extent of the infection, they can possibly take up to 6 months to work. If you are on them that long, you will have to get blood drawn as well for LFTs (Liver Function Test).

Try the Selenium Sulfide for a while before you commit to the systemic route.
