A friend of mine living abroad wants to be able to record radio broadcasts off the internet, so he can listen to hockey games. The stream he wants is an .asx stream (so an .asf file, bleh, WMP) He needs to be able to schedule it because the games are broadcast live, and for him that's 2am. He downloaded the free version of Replay Radio, but it won't do scheduling, the full version will. He wants to know if there are any free (as in FOSS, not as in cracked) apps that will do that job. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

Things you'll need: - a program capable of recording audio (here's the google search cuz i'm so nice). Learn how to initiate recording via command line parameters. Any program worth its salt should lend itself to this easily.1) Go to Start -> Run and type 'sndvol32' 2) Go to Options and click on the Recording bullet. Check to see if there's a checkbox in the list below called "What U Hear" or "wave out" or something like that. This will let you record whatever the sound card plays* 3) Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks (That might not be exact path for you, I'm an organizational freak when it comes to the Start Menu, even tho I never use it) 4a) Using the audio recorder and command line parameters, set up a task to launch the recorder for whenever a game is on. 4b) Also set up tasks to PLAY the games using some kind of media player. You might also need to use the media player's command line options. If the media player doesn't play it, the audio recorder will have nothing to record. He'll have to set up two tasks for every game he wants to record. One to launch the player, one to launch the recorder. *You might want to disable system sounds or make sure he's logged off IM services or else he'll record the sounds overlayed with the radio broadcast. 5) pay me 50 bucks for typing all this shit out in Easy To Read (tm) instructions. Mplayer would IMO be the best tool. You only need that one piece of software for the entire job, unless of course if you want to convert to MP3 after recording, in which case you need lame or something.BTW you don't have to dump to WAV, you can dump the stream in its native format, so there's no re/decompression, and you can listen to the 100% original stream at any time without loss of quality or without converting to big-ass WAV files. -------------------- quote: Originally posted by FS: Wow, I can't believe I'm agreeing with FS on this one
