I have family that lives about 70 miles west of Houston which puts them a little over 100 miles inland from Galveston but less than 100 miles from Matagorda (which is southwest of Galveston). Hopefully all they get out of it is some heavy rain.

I just heard on the radio that authorities have opened up all 8 lanes (for one direction) on the interstate heading out of Houston. Apparently they're backed up 160Km, and have moved less than 3Km in 6 hours.

I about died when I saw this. Of course its wrong, but still funny.

Anyways - I read that it wouldn't be surprising to see this cap off to 200mph winds, but hurricanes in the gulf almost always die down significantly because the gulf isn't nearly as deep as the hurricane would need it to be to sustain such power. Coastal waters cool down and should bring it down to 140mph< area. Just what I read.

I'd still get the hell out of town tho
