Wouldn't AMD dual cores be a lot cheaper, while also offering 64 bit operation once that becomes practical in Windows too...

Intel admits to having rushed their dual-core shit out the door, and trying to copy AMD's 64-bit architecture too. So go with AMD.

AMD Dualies are more expensive, but they also spank just about any Intel offering Single or Dual core.

And they didn't copy AMD x86-64, they licensed it, I imagine as part of a cross-license deal, because AMD Venice cores and newer support SSE3.
