The first video card I have purchased in at least 3 years is on its way.

I've not been playing any computer games in quite sometime, so I haven't had the need for a decent one, really. Every now and then, though, I look at my Doom3 box I purchased last year, and I really want to play it. I have a reasonable processor (P4 3.00), but the FX5200 card just won't cut it.

So, I was perusing NewEgg the other day, and realized that I am so far behind the times, that it won't cost me very much to make a huge leap forward. Anyway, my shiny new 6600GT should be here in a couple days.

I picked up a Radeon X800XL, and I'm very happy with it. It's about on par with a 6800GT. Heh, I had to get a new gphx card because I got a PCI-Express motherboard.

i've still got a 9800np, and doom3, HL2, far cry, et al run great.

the athlon 64 helps too. my performance in battlefield 2 probably doubled when i moved to it from my old XP1700.

Don't play Doom3 in the dark with surround sound.

Burb, yeah Athlon64s rule.

My Leadtek Geforce2 GTS had a fan that started to die a few months ago, so I finally got tired of the rattle and realized that although it still plays the new games and looks decent, it was a bit past due for replacement. I, too, opted for a Geforce 6600 GT from Gigabyte, and I have been quite impressed. All the games I've thrown at it have looked amazing. FarCry has some serious eye candy, and runs smoothly with it all turned on at 1024x768 with 4x FSAA. I know you'll be satisfied, Vader.

Fear my 32MB Radeon IGP320. Quake2 @ 640, 50fps. You're jealous.

My dog just got another free issue of gamepro and I saw some small shots of Quake 4 in it. Looking pretty sweet.

I saw a video from Quake Con where Todd Hollenshead, Tim Willits, and some dude from Raven were showcasing Quake 4. It looks REALLY spiffy. Really, eally, spiffy.

Oh, in the Doom movie, two characters are Dr. Carmack and Dr. Willits.
