Whoa, hope everyone is okay. Good thing you weren't running early WillyT-------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

If we had been, we would have been totally safe on the road. It only affected the northbound side in the morning mudslide and we were headed south. But now, santa barbara county is pretty much cut out from the interstate system, so if we had been early, we would have no land route back home. I would have just called my parents and had them take me down to OC until the roads open. I don't know what the rest of the group would have done, though. Only about half are from the LA area. I suppose the rest would have been taken in with hospitality. As for the mudslides, I'm not near any hills, mountains, or cliffs, so they shouldn't be a problem. Gaviota (5 minutes north of here) and Montecito, Summerland, and La Conchita (15-30 minutes south) will all be hit severely. La Conchita already has 2 or 3 casualties to the big mudslide that I'm sure you'll hear about in your local news. There was a news crew that came up from LA to cover the road closure that stopped me and they caught the deadly 2:30 mudslide on tape. But since our local network affiliates SUCK, I still haven't seen what my friends downhome have been watching all day. There's a possiblity of flooding where I am, but it probably won't do much damage unless we get another foot or more of water here. The apartment complex I'm in has pretty good drainage capabilites and it seems like it's only a few roads and paths that ever get flooded here. Plus, I'm in the second floor, so I'm not really worried about anything happening. I'm kind of regretting not filling up my car's gas tank this afternoon. I don't expect that there would be a major jump in gas prices or that I would need to drive anywhere before they return to normal. It's not like I have anywhere to drive other than the market, anyway, and I stocked up on bread, water, soda, and meat today just in case we're cut off for a while.Anyway, I'm rambling now. I just came back to post this. And I'm regretting the fact that I forgot to pack my .45 *once again* (third time now) when I was down in OC yesterday. -------------------- signature
