This has never happened before. I thought I was going insane, or hearing someone's radio outside, but very faintly I can hear a radio station coming out of my sub. It only goes away if I unplug the sub power. The speaker is part of a crappy 50-dollar Altec Lansing surround sound system, but it cuts the mustard so I don't feel like replacing it.

wtf might be causing this? Its kind of annoying.

lol

sorry, but it's kinda funny when you think about it.

The only thing I could think of that might do it, would be badly shielded or unshielded speaker wire of suitable length (say 3ft or so). As it's a computer speaker set, it could be badly shielded. Speaker wire makes decent antenna wire.

As long as it's not playing hate rock or something, I'd just ignore it.

I'm with Nate on this one... but it's more than just an antena, it's functioning more like a crystal radio.

To change the station, adjust the wire LOL.

I've seen that happen before on some speaker sets...the fix was to pull the speakers outta the surge protector and plug them directly into the wall. Might be worth a shot.

I also had this problem so I bought a couple of chokes from Radio Shack.............helped a little bit but I still got some radio reception. It was never anything like BCN or FNX, more like local cab companies and arab jibberish!

The radio station is in your head.

AW - it was intended to sound funny

JOSH - I switched and plugged it directly into a wall outlet, but I still get stations. I just heard "California Girls" by the Beach Boys. The box didn't have this "feature" listed, so I guess I'm just getting more bang for my buck.

eks - burn down my head!!

I had the same thing happening, but I think it was my sound card picking it up. When I turned my computer off, the radio station would get much louder than when it was running, but as everything spun down, it quieted down. Try altering the rout of your wiring. Change the shape or length of any straight runs of wire, maybe double it over itself in a few places. But picking up radio isn't uncommon at all. If you have good ears, you will be able to hear your hard drives on your speakers.

I bet you can change radio stations by doing what WillyT said with the cord.

If you want to get rid of it, or at least, make it less. Get a couple of ferrous toroids (chokes) from radioshack and either loop the wire through them or clip them around the wire, depending on which type you get.

that's the idea, anyway: finding an unused frequency.
