Outrider are you talking the minimum coverage like PLPD or whatever they call it? Or are the rest of being screwed because we don't know any better? Our two cars are: 1997 Toyota RAV 4 1996 Chevy Cavilar -------------------- ...

Nope, wasn't a ZX2, but it was a "Sport". As far as I could ever determine, however, Fords definition of "Sport" merely includes changing the cloth pattern on the seats, slapping on some cheap cast aluminum wheels, and bolting on a laughable spoiler. Even the Ford dealership admitted that the engine and gearing were no different than any other standard Escort.Personally, I always hated that car. It was a POS from the moment we brought it home and it gave us nothing but grief until the moment we traded it in. It was gutless, drank way too much gas for a car its size (my 4 door Mazda 626 got double its mileage), rattled and groaned incessantly, and the damned CD player would skip if you so much as farted while driving (it was actually unuseable on many roads). I much prefer the Caravan for my wife --------------------

The repair guys said the mileage dropped because the EPA tests with the AC off. Yeah, BS, I know, but I actually suspect I know what was causing the problem. HC's were fine when it was smogged so it was obviously burning it all, and the plugs always looked great when I changed them so it wasn't building up inside as carbon, and STILL the car had no power.Personally, I suspect that's the reason why the mileage was so bad. The car was so badly underpowered for its weight, or so badly geared, that my wife had to be a bit of a leadfoot just to drive it like a normal car. In my 4 banger 626 I'm usually passing 80MPH before I pass the end of the ramp getting on the freeway (hey, this is California after all). In the Escort we were lucky to be doing 50 by the time we merged onto the freeway, even with the pedal ground into the floor. It's stunning lack of horsepower pretty much forced leadfooted behavior, which killed any chance it had of achieving a decent MPG rating. --------------------
