I was hoping it was like Star Trek transporters with matter - energy conversion. It looks to be more on par with copying a thing onto existing matter than transporting that thing.

Or maybe I am too stupid to understand.

If my body would be transformed to pure energy, it would be the equivalent of about ten thousand 20 kiloton explosions (*).

But even disregarding that, matter<->energy teleportation isn't going to be around too soon, if ever

(* unless I got my math terribly wrong)

if you weigh 180, it's actually about 90000 20 kiloton bombs. 10000 20 kiloton bombs would correspond to about 20 pounds of lost mass.

as for the teleportation, it's much more useful for communications. Entanglement is what makes quantum encryption work. Except with a particle like an atom (and I don't know if this is the goal of the project) it is a lot easier to store and carry the entangled particle, and it might lead to a two way entanglement signal carrier. If you want to compare it to star trek technology, it's more like subspace communication in that that the entangled particles are tied to each other in such a way that information is shared between them instanenously.

right you are (approx 75 000 x 20 kilotons), dunno what I fubared the first time I did that.

So, I am even more dangerous that I thought!
