I am in the process of researching some home audio equipment considering my Creative Lab I-Trigue 3300's aren't doing the trick. I am not looking for harmon kardon recommendations because I am far from being able to afford such EQ. I have been searching aimlessly on the Internet trying to find what I am looking for but I am not sure what i should be looking for.

I've noticed receivers that have 125 watts per channel at cheap prices and then I see the harmon Kardon stuff at like 55 or 85. I assume its the sound quality that would increase with the more expensive equipment?

I'm not positive which brands to go with so if I have any audio efficienados(sp?) in the group that could poiint me in the right direction or atleast a website that I can use as a better starting point then searching through google.

Thanks in advance

Most of your budget should be reserved for speakers. ie if you're going to spend 1000 bucks, 800 for speakers, 200 for any of your sony, panasonic, kenwood type 5.1 recievers.

The reason your entry level HK and denon recievers are lower wattage is because they use better amps. 85 watts of denon will sound better and louder than 125 watts of kenwood if you have decently good speakers.
