it was a nice day out today. It was a bit cold, but the sun was out and there was little wind. I decided to ride my bike up to phillys best to get a slice. So i grab my good old-school timbuk2 bag and head out the door. There are lots of people around today givin the weather. And normaly i dont take the lake front path due to the amount of people who mistake the "bike" trail for a "lets see if i can get hit by a bike" trail but today i am in no hurry, and it would be great to have a relaxing ride.

I get to Phillys buy my slice, chat it up with the man at the register (i've been going to Phillys since highschool and they all mostly know my face.) and get out. I smile as i see that someone didnt make off with my bike, and i head back home down the lakefront once again.

Now, a few things. One, i am no stranger to seeing freaky, even bazaar things while i travel around this city. I often ride my bike down this path in the very early hours of the morning when the rest of the world is sleeping and it can be a scary, strange, and funny place. But when i saw a guy dressed up as a wandering samurai i just had to stop and laugh at the world we live in.

That guy wether he knows it or not, reminded me that we should all do what makes us happy. no matter what others might think.

thank you wandering samurai, where ever you are.

Which came first. . . the chicken, or the egg

Hehe, don't answer that.

Nice samurai drawing hat.

All weekend long I kept imagining that I was coming down with something because Steph has an upper respiratory infection.

I feel fine today though.

I stopped at Starbucks today for coffee before work. I love a great strong dark roast coffee.

Hat ~ Your story made me want a grinder!

Cac ~ Being sick sucks glad you didn't get the bug. I love starbucks but I always say large instead of venti just to piss of the workers. Stupid corporate naming scheme.

I just got out of Biology class and I have too much studying to do this week

But today is my birthday too so thats kinda nice. On March 22nd of 1983 I came into this world. I was born a yellow baby (jaundice) but now Im not so yellow. Just white and pale.

Happy 20+1 to myself, yay. Hope everyone else is having a nice monday

I detest Starbucks Coffee. I buy whole bean coffee from a little tiny mom&pop coffee shop and grind it myself fresh every morning.

Starbucks always tastes somewhat burnt to me.

I also buy my own beans and try to get them the same day they are roasted, store them in a freezer and only grind what I need.

However I only make coffee or more often espresso on the weekend or maybe early evenings on occasion.

During the week I don't take the time before work to make it. So Starbucks is just fine for me. I actually like heavy roast so that burned taste you speak of may just be heavier roast than you like.

Cac, I always ask for medium roast, and burnt medium roast is nasty.

I don't store beans in the freezer, just a cool dry place is fine really. But I go through coffee fairly fast, so I don't worry about long term storage. (like about a lb a week fast)

Heheheh, just about Xan, just about.

I don't actually drink all that coffee myself, but I still have 2-4cups a day.

I pre-grind for the week (can't be running the grinder at 5am when the wife and kids are asleep) and store it in the freezer during the week. Works out fairly well for me.

Sometimes I really miss a good old cup of Tim Horton's though...

Freezing coffee destroys the natural oils and distorts the flavor.

Better in an airtight canister than in the freezer, man.

I drink anything with caffeine in it no matter how bad it tastes. Makes no sense but speed slows down my mind.

Actually Apostrophe (whoever the hell he is) =) is correct when it comes to ground coffee. You should keep it in an airtight container.

However you can freeze the whole beans if you have too much.

What's hurts it is exposing the frozen beans to air and its moisture.

Put a week's worth or less of beans in airtight bags or jars and freeze them.

Then be sure to let the container warm up to room temperature before you open it.

Of course the best way is buy the beans within 2 days of roasting and only buy 1-2 weeks worth at a time.
