I spent a couple hours tonight arranging the sheet music for a classic tune I hope the band I'm in will accept. (it's the pep band for the school's athletics)

check out a crappily balanced mp3 of the cheesy midi interpretation here

what'd you use for notating it?

sounds good to me.. was the last measure of each of the two sections a bit shortened, or was that intended? seems like there'd be more of a flourish if it was spaced differently.

I agree on the spacing but we'll probably skip the repeat to keep it around 30 seconds. I wrote the ending then added a repeat bar to just after the intro mostly as an afterthought in case we wanted to keep looping it. Maybe I should add an extra bar in the first ending.

I used finale 2004.

and nice to see ya, 'nuj. It seems like it's been forever.

It is super mario brothers. SMB, level 2-2 and 7-2, IIRC. It's the underwater levels.

And anuj was right. the spacing was off on the repeat. Revised version now up on same link. (Or midi version here)

Heheheheheh

Yep, water level.

Neat. GJ Willy. . . I haven't written music in a LOOONG time. I know how much effort you probably had to put in.

<---Classically trained Pianist. But I haven't played in so long, about all I can do is sight read either right hand, or left hand. . . and that badly.

well, it didn't go over as well as I'd have hoped. our conductor (Nikki) and the saxes and clarinets (pah-pah to my tuba's oom) didn't like it at all and the response from those that did wasn't strong enough to keep it. Personally, I think it would be great for the officials' time outs when they play the shot sweepstakes games but... whatever. That puts me at 1 for 3 so far. They didn't like Last Caress, either, but we actually have performed my rendition of a crazy little thing called love (although it was completely mangled to get it to 30 seconds). She wants me to do I Believe in a thing Called Love, and I said I would, but it's gonna be hard putting my heart into it. I would rather do something by Spinal Tap or Ugly Kid Joe or even POTUSA.

You should do the level 1 theme from Gunsmoke

save as--> http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/Gunsmoke.mid

Or this theme from Ninja Gaiden 2.
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/ng2_cstl.mid

Or this one. . .but I'm so NOT telling you what it's from, suffice to say I'm fairly certain it's the last stage music.
http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sega/genesis/zw-gerbarra.mid

Here's a hint about the last one. . . READ THE LINK VERY CAREFULLY!!!

[edit]

In all seriousness though, you should do whatever you feel would be the best music. Not what the bandleader thinks is the best, especially when it's obvious that the person doesn't understand you can't really compress a 4minute song into 30s with making it sound like poop.

nah, she knows pretty well what we can and can't do. Afterall, it's her third year with the group and only my first. I just like to play around with arrangements, and if they fly, great, but if not, no big deal.

and those midi files sound pretty cool. I particularly like the gunsmoke one (one of my favorite nes games) but I don't think it would translate very well to brass and woodwinds.
