I'm not sure I want to. It's not that I have problems with the subject because I'm agnostic. I think it's more that I'm worried that it is going to be too over the top on the religious side, given the subject matter, that's pretty tough not to have happen, but Andrew Lloyd Webber pulled it off in Jesus Christ: Superstar. I have a pretty low tolerance for rhetoric, and melodramatic self-adulation. Like in Lethal Weapon 4 or The 6th Day, or Rocky 5.-------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

Two people I heard one earlier today. Could be marketing hype (hoax). AW you should go see it. Who cares about one's own belief when going to see a movie? It's good to see other perspectives anyway. Well I can let you know how good it is after I go... I can't believe this movie is more controversial than Martin Scorcese's The Last Temptation of Christ. I mean Christ on the cross with an erection and that gay guy pleasuring himself and sucking Christ off. Talk about yikes... -------------------- ...

Read my post again. It's NOT the subject matter that makes me reluctant to see it. I just don't want to see a movie that loses itself in the lead actor's/producer's self-adulationWell, it's controversial, but sometimes the truth is. (I mean the truth as to the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion) -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

rofl @ xan. acid = ownedacid - how bout some funny jokes, dude? those would help. doubt I'll see this myself. I've no need for religious flicks that beg for pity of the main character. [ 02-26-2004: Message edited by: Flux ] --------------------

lol @ outrider, willy & xan quote: I think it's more that I'm worried that it is going to be too over the top on the religious side, given the subject matter, that's pretty tough not to have happen
Acidwarp - I was referring to that comment. quote: don't get it. a movie targeted it at a group of people who find movies to be evil and sacrilegious...
burble - What? It's not targeted for any particualr group that I can tell. What do you mean? Trace - I sometimes wait for DVD especially for a movie that I don't think will be great. However certain movies you have to see on the big screen for audio/visual reasons like LOTR. Other movies (especially comedies, etc.) I think you need to see in a theater simply because you also need the audience reaction. This movie in particular I think you need to see in a semi-filled theatre because of the audience reactions. IMO. [ 02-26-2004: Message edited by: Cacophonous ] -------------------- ...

We saw it last night. While not the most enjoyable film that I have ever seen (obviously.) it was one of the most stunning i have seen. The entire time I just sat there with my mouth open in amazement.I guess you can say that Mel really got his point across here as once the movie was over not one person said a word. The theatre was dead silent for about a minute until someone stood up to clap. Also, I have never seen so many people break down and cry during a movie. As a wanna-be christian (ie: I believe in christianity but never really goto church) this movie moved and even shocked me. I think I will still see it although Mel Gibson is a fucking moron and his dad an insane nazi Jew hater who doesn't think the holocaust in Nazi Germany ever happened. About the only way I would probably see this movies, is to go with my brother and his friend Rob. I'm quite sure Rob will get us kicked out at some point in the movie. You see Rob likes to yell out stuff during movies especially when he gets drunk and he always sneaks booze in. I can only imagine him yelling stuff out to promote/support jesus getting beat to death. It will be interesting to say the least... -------------------- ...

It is not ironic in the least. If you knew even a little theologic history you would understand this. The Crusades...now there was irony with Christianity. [ 03-01-2004: Message edited by: Snag ]

^ Agreed, a hundred years of war and death and slaughter. All in the name of religion. War. . . in the name of God. . . Hmmm. .. sounds familiar. But we won't go there. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.
