It stumped me for the longest time, then it came to me and I solved it in like 3 minutes.

Just wanna see if there are other ways to solve it. I will post my solution after people have a chance to give it a try.

Yeah, I got D as well. Heh, as for writing out a solution. I don't think I could, solving was never the problem, but writing out the solution I was never good at. I just balance the numbers in my head.

Took me about 3min Jam.

this is my first real post.i am the other half.i never got into the hard core math,i was more of a biology and art kind of guy inn school.looking at this thing at i had no idea, stumped i cheated and looked,it did not tell me much at first, but i think i may understand it now.do you take 1/2 of the smallest number(bd), subtract it from the largest number(ce)and then multiply that by the whole small number(bd)?

is this it?
(bd=8)=q (ce=12)=h
.5*q=4-h=8*q=64

it works on this perticular problem, but i am not sure What the hell i am doing.

Oh you can expect that, everyone's mad here, you may have noticed I'm not exactly all together myself

me again, if there were a line that started at point A, bisected point G, and created a new point(D)where it hit line B,C,can you figure the length of line A,D?

your math would give us a negative area...therefore it is not it

One tiny error: Triangle BCG = 64/3 Not 48/3. However, The quad still works out to 144/3 cause I had that worked out on another piece of paper which had 64/3 for Triangle BCG.

Nice one grumpy!

Ooops I just noticed that I had a mistake in my recusion.

It should go:
48 + 48/4 + 48/16 + 48/64 + 3/16 + 3/64 + ...
= 48 + 12 + 3 + 3/4 + 3/16 + 3/64 + ...
= 64

grumpy one more thing... Notice that Triangle BGC is exactly half the size of your rectangle HAZG... thus

Area ABC = 1.5 times HAZG

= 128/3 * 3/2 = 128/2 = 64

On a multiple choice test you don't have time to do bullshit like that. That is why MC tests test logical reasoning, not so much your ability to come up with the RIGHT answer.

If it means anything, I had the answer (and yes, it was my final answer...64) within about 15 seconds...incorporating the law of ratios into geometry of course WHY is not important in a MC test hehe

Just remember that 1/2H x B = area
you have both approximates. Therefore logical reason gets the answer like Snag says
