Why do some people say "acks" instead of "ask"? It is so deliberate that it's rediculous. I created a stir at work a few days ago when a fella wanted to "acks" me a question.Fella: " Hey Tea, can I acks you a question?" Me: "Uh, what did you say?" Fella: "I said, can I acks you a question?" Me: " What do you mean- acks? Fella: [angry sarcasm] "Oh, I'm sorry- Can I ASK you a question?" He pronounced it clear as Mr. Webster had intended, with no sign of a speech impediment. It just made me wonder why people blatantly refuse to say it the correct way. It annoys
me.

I hate that 'axe me a question' crap as well as the 'he towed me what to do'. As far as playing dumb goes, it does have some advantages. Many girls (at least young ones) would rather do a guy who is not as smart as she is for several reasons. One being that she is not intimidated by the guy. I found that you can easily adjust your vocabulary to appear less smart. However you can't adjust to appear more intelligent. [ 02-04-2003: Message edited by: Cacophonous ] -------------------- ...

awww, no shit. This is why most people just laugh at those commercials for tapes that "improve your vocabulary" because "people judge you by the way they talk". No they don't. For the most part they're ignorant mouth-breathers that would have difficulty understanding you if your vocabulary was any further advanced than that of a third grader. We INSIST on lowering our standards to the point where many people that watch Leno's "Jay Walking" on the Tonight Show don't get what's so funny (because they too can't answer the questions). -------------------- No Sig
