Why do some people say "acks" instead of "ask"? It is so deliberate that it's rediculous. I created a stir at work a few days ago when a fella wanted to "acks" me a question.

Fella: " Hey Tea, can I acks you a question?"
Me: "Uh, what did you say?"
Fella: "I said, can I acks you a question?"
Me: " What do you mean- acks?
Fella: [angry sarcasm] "Oh, I'm sorry- Can I ASK you a question?"

He pronounced it clear as Mr. Webster had intended, with no sign of a speech impediment. It just made me wonder why people blatantly refuse to say it the correct way.

It

annoys

me.

You're making a politically incorrect ethnic statement, y'know.

jon, that's what the HR dude said. Sorry, but you show me where acks is in the dictionary. HR says we should respect colloquialisms. Aren't profanities colloquialisms too?

Yeah, acks me the fucking question then.

Hey, I can play stupid too. I thought the fella wanted to axe me. Maybe I should take that as a threat.

Ask your HR man when the colloquialism tolerance seminar is being offered. After the sexual harassment symposium, maybe?

All joking aside Tea Bagger, be careful not to turn these morons against you, it could get you fired. The person went to HR?

I have also learned that flaunting your intelligence will get those above you worried about their own jobs in a tight economy. They will also do there best to see that you fail.

I hate the business world. I hate the politics. I hate stupid people.

I hate that 'axe me a question' crap as well as the 'he towed me what to do'.

As far as playing dumb goes, it does have some advantages. Many girls (at least young ones) would rather do a guy who is not as smart as she is for several reasons. One being that she is not intimidated by the guy. I found that you can easily adjust your vocabulary to appear less smart. However you can't adjust to appear more intelligent.

/ RANT

I just had a call like that the other day and the guy wanted to acks me about my long distance, I found after yrs of workign with the public my volcabulary has actually gotten worse, plus old age too, cos I am always downgrading my speech and letters to accomadate them, this is why society is lowering all its standards and people can even write a fawken letter or email to anyone anymore that is half readable.

Ranting is fun
Ranting is good
Venting the brain bun
Fragging a spirit hood

awww, no shit.

This is why most people just laugh at those commercials for tapes that "improve your vocabulary" because "people judge you by the way they talk".

No they don't. For the most part they're ignorant mouth-breathers that would have difficulty understanding you if your vocabulary was any further advanced than that of a third grader.

We INSIST on lowering our standards to the point where many people that watch Leno's "Jay Walking" on the Tonight Show don't get what's so funny (because they too can't answer the questions).

How about people who say "MEGA DITTOS" to Rush Limbaugh? I would prefer them to say something like "Hail Satan" instead.
