Gut it out, man.I had my last smoke at 10:45PM on Dec. 31, 2001. For those of you with PS2s, that's over a year and 2 weeks ago. It was easy. (yeah, right ... especially coming from someone who likes his more-than-occasional cocktail) Good Luck ! -------------------- No Sig

*hits it* Don't get me wrong Riv I would drink way more than I do if I wasn't diabetic. I love an occasional gin n tonic, or good imported beer. Lately I have been enjoying several brands of wheat beer. I usually don't drink with the traditional lemon. You can't go wrong with a Hacker Pschorr, Paulaner or my favorite brand 'Weihenstephaner', which is the smoothest beer in the world. -------------------- ...

Btw hey outrider. It's really great to hear from/see you here and there lately. I wanted to thank you for those movie tips that you gave me a while back.I love Requiem for a Dream - totally and The Man that wasn't there - majorly. =) I sill have to see The Following or Following, whichever. Do you catch the Sundance Film Channels' short films? They have been playing some cool amateur shit. -------------------- ...

Oh, welcome to the club, I've been diagnosed with Diabetes type1 25yrs ago at the age of 2. The first complications are starting to show in the forms of sligh retinopatia in the eyes and neuropatia in my feet. That's the main reason I quit smoking and only have a glass or two of whiskey every now and then... I'm using Protaphan and Humalog. The dosage I use is pretty big for my weight, but I really eat very much without putting any weight on. Morning 24 Protaphan and 8 - 10 Humalog. Day 8 - 10 Humalog. Afternoon 8 - 10 Humalog. Evening (4 Hum. if required) 22 Protaphan. [ 01-17-2003: Message edited by: Lindi ]

Quitting is easy for me unfortunately starting again is even easier. For the past 6 days I've felt like shit from having a cold and smoking just does not appeal to me right now. My wife smokes a couple of butts in the evening and sometimes I have thought about lighting up but the raspy cough I have disuades me. I would like to quite permanently but it's weird because I don't smoke in traditional sense. I don't smoke in the morning or at work and I rarely smoke at home. I smoke when I play pool or when out partying. Alcohol is my weakness, it opens the back door and let Mr. Smokey in when I'm not looking. The thing is, after a heavy night of booze and butts I regret it in the morning when I am hacking up phlegm. I think I may get some of that gum stuff to try popping when I get the urge. A friend of mine who's being smoking for about 30 years recently quit and has been going strong for several months. He always cheated before but notthis time even though he spends a lot more money on gum than he ever did on butts. What suprises me is that I am an intelligent guy and even though I know smoking is bad for me it's not enough to stop me from doing it. One day THAT penny will drop, I will see the light and never smoke again.Good Luck to all the quitters out there. [ 01-17-2003: Message edited by: Max ] -------------------- (_*_)

I quit smoking on December 12th 2002 and have been doing ok myself. I'm chomping on the nicorette gum.Gives me the before/after cigarette/nicotine transition. I had tried the patch once before and while I still think the patch is one of the best nicotine transferral methods (I don't understand why there aren't Marboro, Camel, Neuport, etc. patches on the market) yet developed. It didn't really make me want to quit picking up, and lighting up. The gum gives me a physical action to perform (the actual opening and chewing of the gum), and the before/after transition. It made it easier (so far). (My four year old son, talked me into trying ) --------------------

Maybe some of the other "recent quitters" will bear this out, but:Hey Riv... I hate to piss on your parade but (congratualations for reaching 2 weeks !!!) the 2 week mark is not very critical. Ten to twelve weeks is THE BITCH. I think it's because your body and subconscious mind finally starts to figure out that YES, YOU'VE TURNED OFF THE NICOTINE. IT'S GONE MF'r ... DEAL WITH IT. So they conspire and pull some logic shit on you. Like this: Subcon.Mind & Body (SMB): "Hey dood. See, that was easy. You can do it again anytime. So see, there's no harm in lighting one up. C'mon, you pussy, you earned it!!!" You: "Nahhh, man. I'm gutting this one out. I got this far ...." SMB: "You fukkin' wuss ! Er ... ah ... um, I mean dood, yeah. For sure you've done an EXCELLENT job. But there'd be no harm in just sneaking ONE ... hell, you don't even have to finish it. See, there's your buddy over there that smokes your bran ... er, X-BRAND. Go bum one ... then you don't even have to buy a pack (for now, heh heh heh)" You: "No, man. It was a real bitch those first few days .... but, yeah. I DO remember how that first puff hurt so good" SMB: (in Bevis voice) "Yeah! Yeah! ... do IT! You know you want to ... AND you can just go right back like it never happened ...yeah!!!" 2 to 3 months, Riv ... watch it! Hell. I still have dreams with this scenario: I dream that I have a smoke ... then another. Then I determine than in a course of a day I've done a half a pack. I'm SO PISSED at myself, not to mention depressed. The I wake up and figured out that it never happened. I feel better about it but it reminds me that I can always slide back soooo easily. [ 01-24-2003: Message edited by: jondster ] -------------------- No Sig
