heh, I've never had a Cely before.
I did overclock my P120 to 166 I think.
I also overclocked my K6-166 to 200
My PIII800 went to 888.
My AMD Athlon 1700XP went from 1.466 to 1.578... and now that the weather is cooling off, I might overclock it again.

My 300a is on a shelf in my parts cabinet.

The motherboard and case was sold to a coworker and has my brother's old Celeron 500 in it.

Fondly remember ??? Hell Outtie, those were the quintessenal days of the Q2/Q3 "community". I got started overclocking just to wring a few more fps out of timedemo 1 ... just like the rest of you guys. All the talk here was about guns, maps and how far you could push the FSB on an Abit BH6.

Yeah, I still have that processor. It's collecting dust along with MY 366 ... and probably a 500. The BH6, BM6 and Soyo 6VCA are probably all in some landfill though.

Ah yessssssss ..... those were the days indeed.

Then:

Celeron 300A on an Abit BH6, 2.2v and 103 MHz FSB Glacier triple fan
128MB of PC100 SDRam
Riva TNT w/ 16MB Ram (just dumped the 3DFX Voodoo w/ 12 MB
SB Live!
8.4 Gig Fujitsu ATA33 HD, 24X CDRom
56Kbps modem

Maybe 50 FPS on Q2 demomap

Now:

AMD +2100 on Gigabyte 7VXR-2 KT333. Stock 133/266 FSB
768 MB of Mushkin PC2700 333MHz DDR
A 80MM Fan on a 12oz copper heatsink cooling the damn thing
Chaintek Geforce4 Ti4600, SB Audigy
52X CDRom, 48/40/12 CDRW
Cable - 1.5 Mbps down, 128Kbps up

I have no idea how many FPS I could do on Q2, but it'd be fun to find out

I hear ya big J! I think the most fun I've ever had playing online was at the big O server with my voodoo2 and then Hammertown with my shiny new tnt, heh. Those were some good times.

I've gone full circle now, left intel, got AMD, went back to intel, hehe. Hell, the wife uses a t-bird for email now, heh.

Thinking bout trying out one of those ati 9700's in the P4 box. Have you seen what they do to a ti4600 in UT2003?

I fried mine. My brother got a similar setup, but his would only go up to 387, and was quite unstable there. So when I got my athlon 500 and set it up, I decided to give him my 300A which had been running at 464 for 7 or 8 months without a hitch. But somewhere between dismantling my old system, carrying the chip about 50 feet down a hall, and installing it in his machine, I must have picked up and transferred some static. It would boot in his machine or mine after that, so he kept his only slightly overclocked 300 and until he got his athlon 700 a few months later. That was around the same time the k6 233 running my server melted (it was a hot summer) so his 300A is my current server (for almost two years now) running at 300A quite beautifully. It regularly gets 40 day uptimes in win98 first edition, although I have yet to experience the 42.7 day bug first hand. (most of my crashes on it are related to VNC or Sygate or possibly the combination of the two.)

Yeah, after reading the reviews of how nVidia gets humiliated by the 9700, something inside of me wants to go pop $322 at newegg.com so I can witness it firsthand.

Then I think "Shit, the Ti4600 absolutely handles everything thrown at it, What's the BFD ?" That Radeon will become a bit more justifiable when the DOOM 4 engine is out. We'll probably be talking well under $300 by then, not to mention a Geforce5 / NV30 chipset by then.

The friggin' game never ends ...

I'd give my eye teeth to get that feeling back. Even pulling OICU's (or your) rail slugs out of my ass somehow felt good.

I remember rocket-popping Hammer for like the third consecutive time when he was trying to take the up elevator at Tokay's Tower, him saying "Alright then, so I WON'T take the elevator up !". A few moments later I do believe he made me pay rather dearly (and often) for those temporary victories.

hehe, I remember my Celery 300a...got it the day it came available. Had it for 10 minutes before I juiced her to 450...then 500...not stable at 500 to we settled with 450. Then when a friend offerened me 600 bones for the system I was like SOLD!! and went and bought my 900 T-Bird. Some friend eh? In my defence, I told him to make me an offer. Little did he know his offer fully paid for me to upgrade

I remember the old days. I remember lots of long ICQ convos with many people here discussing the intricacies of overclocking the Celeron 300A on a BH6 motherboard.

I still have my old BH6 motherboard, it is currently running a Celeron 1GHz CPU @ 1.12GHz in my server computer. The old 300A is sitting on my table unused now.

I also remember quite well, the zillions of Q2 timedemos i've done testing over and over every little tweak to the system and config files for the game. I should see if I can find those benchmarks I did of Q2 in my current computer. IIRC, 1600x1200x32 netted over 100fps in the crusher timedemo.

I was the 'big' intel pusher back then, funny now how my main computer is running an AMD Athlon T-Bird. I'm still running with nVidia though, havent left them since my original Creative TNT card. Funny how since that card, i've only had two others. The Guillemot Maxigamer TNT-2 Ultra that still resides in my server computer, and the Asus V7700 Deluxe GeForce2 GTS that is in my main computer (in no need of upgrade right now either). I'm no longer part of the big upgrade cycle. Hell, my main computer has remained unchanged now in over a year, with the exception of the scanner (which doesnt count), and I see no need for upgrading it any time soon.

Heh. . . I've got a 333a sitting in my desk, I use it as a wax scraper for my skis (it was fried before that).

Aaah. . . q2 takes me back. . . I still remember playing CTF till I got nauseous. Was too far away to play on Hammertown, but I'd heard of it.

I've had my current box for 2 years, and I'm ITCHING for an upgrade. I'm torn between going latest and greatest P4 or the Athlon, I may go Intel again cause AMD has sorta become stagnated and the Hammer won't be out for quite a while.

If I upgrade sooner rather than later, I'm going to go Radeon, FOR SURE!!!

It's getting to be just what we were warned about. I've a Ti4600, and just reinstalled Q2. It looks pretty good, probably a little better than when I was using a Geforce2 DDR, but not eath-shakingly better.

However, up the ante with SOF2 and there's a helluva difference in the eye-candy between the Ti4600 in my #1 cptr and the Geforce3 Ti500 in my #2.

The moral is that these cards pretty well out strip, or aren't challenged by most of the games out lately.

Will Warcraft2 look better on a Radeon 9700 than a Geforce4 Ti4600 ? I doubt it ... it's maxed out and "as good as it gets" on either

Well, I am doing Unix programming and support for the largest credit card processor in the country now, and still live in Tampa. Got a nice house on the river, a fiance that I am head over heels in love with, etc. etc.

I am building a new website currently for my other hobby, the SCA. I somehow got ahold of www.scadian.org so I will be building a large informational site and message boards, similiar to this one. Should be a lot of fun.

heh. I miss odd mod thursday. Jailbreak kicked ass. And 400 ping railing on the q3test. Those were the days...

Me, I'm starting as a junior toward a BS in physics at UCSB in January after finally getting my AA over the summer (took it slow. If you recall, that summer of quake2.com was between high school and college for me, and rather than just cramming all my general ed stuff, I was... exploring majors ) I'm still driving the green beast, and it's always awaiting repairs.

Other than that, I've just been kicking back enjoying what socal has to offer: great weather, laid back atmosphere, and millions of beatiful women just waiting to turn me down. Oh, and I've lost some weight. About 85 pounds since the beginning of 2001.

Holy crap, those Thursday nights rocked! I loved Oicu812's big yeller suit. Made it real easy picking him off with my trusty railgun (LOL... Not!).

Cheers,
