Would anyone care to explain. It seems that every other poster here and on the other forums I visit are using it, but it does not seem to be for sale anywhere... how is this possible? Is it warez allready?

I would like to give it a try, mainly to see how much of an upgrade it would be to win2k and I'm dying to try the new, hyped GUI.

XP has been warez for a long time already...Where do you live...Finland?

Both the corporate professional edition and the private edition is out there....I haven't bothered looking for them, but if you really try, I'm sure it won't be hard...

I purchased my copy yesterday. It's not on the retail shelves yet but some stores have copies to install on the systems they build. But yeah, it's been floating around as warez for a long time.

K, just wondering... it's not going to be out here in Finland ( yes I do live here!) untill the 25th.

Is it true that the Professional (corporate) version does not do the online registration?

My friend deals the XP for our school. Almost all my computer friends are running it.

The Pro version needs to be activated. That's the one I have. I think it's the Corporate Version that doesn't.

Correct...most people here are using the Pro Corp version from DevilsOwn (a warez crew). I originally started using it in Beta 1 but kept ditching it for lack of driver support...but even back then it was good. And despite current problems with my cdr in XP I am sticking with XP just cause I am so used to it now.

There is also something floating around saying the DevilsOwn is mislabeled and it is NOT the corp version...all I know is ya don't need to activate it so that is all that matters to me

I'm not sure which one I've got (it says corp on the image file name) but all I know is that when I installed it, it said the registration is optional.

If you can find it Lindi, go get it. . . it's worth it. Although I should warn you, I had it installed for a day before I broke it and had to literally wipe it. And I've made it lock up twice now. Granted I'm working as a tech right now, so I've been TRYING to break it, and I mean that literally. . . I've had to really TRY. It's really stable. . . maybe not quite as much as 2k, but it's close.

Snag. . . I bet that rumour started here

I bet I'll be able to find it in lots of computerstores after the 25th, I just wonder what the price tag will be.

I think that the registration system really has done it's job, cause I really don't want to warez it.

Lindi. . . you can probably get it right now. . . I know that some comp stores are selling the OEM copies. And I mean SELLING them. You don't have to buy a HD or mobo to be able to purchase it. I've heard of places selling it with a $2 cable and shit like that. Be sure to get the Pro version though. . . the Home Version is for those users that are absolutely incapable of using their computer.

That reminds me. . . anyone know how to disable the automatic update wizard. . . that thing is getting annoying.

I've heard nothing like that happening, atleast in the stores that are near me. I dunno, but I think that I'm going to buy it... I'll ofcourse by it with a student discount, but buy none the less. I'm scared of the "big brother" watching over us.

Then again I might just stick with win2k for as long as MS supports it.

AW, right click my computer and choose Manage. Open the services/applications then services and look for the auto update thingy. Open the properties of it and choose diabled.
edit: I just looked and you can also disabled it if you go to System Properties.

I'm really liking XP. Stable as a rock and more stuff than Win2k. Plus it does a few little things faster than Win2k does.
