I forget things easy... Last week i was reading up on the AMD 1.4 Tbird... and some people were saying to just wait for AMD's new chip coming out soon. Anyone know what this new processor is called? There was some fancy greek name or something to it. I cant remember. I'm arguing at the moment whether or not to buy a system right now or wait out the market and see if prices go down.

oh yeah, before i forget:

read the banner..then read the headline in the news story. That's just horrible

The new one is called the Athlon 4. . . but it's not due out until middle-late September last I heard. Go ahead and get the 1.4, it's fine.

Well. . . sort of. I think with the Athlon though, it's because it's a forth generation core, rather than the forth generation of a CPU. I think that the Pentium has had about 7 different cores dating back as far as the PII, not to mention the many itierations of the PI and then there is the Pentium Pro.

Ummm. . . I'm sorry but it's not called Palomino. That's just the name of the new core design. Much like P3's use Coppermine and P4's currently use Tualatin(sp?).

The new Athlon chip will be called the Athlon 4. AMD has actually already released a Palomino based chip, the Athlon MP.

Q3 refers to the 3rd Quarter of the year in question, in this case it means the 3rd quarter of this year. Quarter refers to the fiscal(financial) quarter system. The year is divided into 4, 3 month sections. Q1 would be January to March, Q2 would be April to June, Q3 would be July to September and Q4 is October to December.

The Athlon 4 is now slated to be released in middle to late September

palomino won't be out for a while. Just get a T-bird 1.4, it'll do nicely

The P6 has had at least a dozen different versions of the core

In no particular order:
Pentium Pro
Pentium 2
Mobile Pentium 2
Pentium 2 Xeon
Celeron
Celeron A Slot 1
Celeron A PPGA
Mobile Celeron
Pentium 3 Katmai
Pentium 3 Xeon
Pentium 3 Coppermine
Mobile Pentium 3
Celeron 2
Mobile Celeron 2
Pentium 3 Tualatin (Tualatin is Pentium 3, not 4)

Yeah, I realized my mistake about tualatin just now.

But like I've said before, AMD has already released a Palomino based chip, the Athlon MP. . .
