I believe it was wig toss. . . I just can't remember who. . . I remember that PC vs Mac thread. . . I think I was the only one that didn't actually flame you You know, you should really use both your pc and mac for web design. . . mac screens have a higher white level(read natural brightness is higher) while Win/Linux boxes are higher contrast (higher natural black level), so using both gives you an idea of what to expect your pages to look like on pretty much everything out there. Plus if I remember correctly the mac's desktop res is set to 800x600, I know you can change it but it throws the dpi balance all to shit. (I think anyway) Because a PC usually sits at 1024x768 the display area is larger and the dpi isn't affected (stays at 72dpi) so you can see how the size will affect the page layout. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

You just proved my point. . . it's not bad thing, I just wasn't very clear.Okay, here we go. . . 72dpi is the number of dot's per inch on a television screen, (4 pixels per dot, tv's use 800x600 res). It's also the dpi of a photograph, basically any visual medium. At 1024x768 (on a winblows box) a dot equals 8 pixels. . . on a mac it still equals 4 pixels, so you get a higher dpi, but that higher dpi isn't 'natural' so it doesn't reflect how something would look in hardcopy (it's GREAT for computer imaging though, the higher the DPI the better, in fact most imaging programs like photoshop allow you to change the dpi of an image, independent of the OS). That would explain smaller text and everything. See if you can change the dpi back to 72 while maintaining 1024 on your G4, you'll see what I mean. I basically summarized what Web Designer David Seigel wrote in his book 'Creating Killer Websites'. He HIGHLY recommends using both PC and Mac for web work. . . even though he does all his HTML coding and Image creation on a Mac. Like I said, it's better to have a higher dpi unless your doing desktop publishing, in which case you need 72dpi in order to have accurate printouts. I'm also probably the only PC guy who will admit that as far as desktop publishing, using office apps, and even compiling code, macs edge out PC's (we're catching up though!!) -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.
