We need a way to drum up some interest in this site, at least as far as the message board goes. I've noticed that while people are actually registering, none of them are actually posting anything. I'd hate to see the message bored go under from lack of interest, I like it here.

I guess any suggestions anyone has should be address to GFK so that he can then take those ideas to the rest of the omnipotent ones that run the site.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but someone had too

I'm just wondeting how we could direct traffic here and also "make" people post more here...

Perhaps the release will have people posting a little more...

I've been thinking the same thing for a while. Not enough peope really pay attention to banner ads, so that wouldn't be too feasible, not to mention the cost of them.

I've told a lot of people about the boards, both online and offline friends, but no one seems to have the time for message boards, it seems. Either that or they think it's some IRC 'chat' program and don't even want to get into it.

I've been wracking my brains trying to think of a reason this place isn't flooded with posts every day (like the PlanetQuake, Polycount and Quake3World forums are). I think that firstly, Q3Arena.com isn't aimed at a particular part of the community. Polycount's aimed at artists, Planetquake (judging by their boards) is aimed at prepubescent wannabe hax0rs, and Quake3World has different forums up the wazoo. I figure Q3Arena.com isn't specific enough for people wanting tech help, art or mod help, clan help, etc. so they go elsewhere for it.

I know, I know I haven't come up with anything constructive, but I'm sure we'll collectively think of something.

Hmmm...

you are right, banners are expensive and often overlooked. Theis usage is also upto the q3arena crew. I don't think that we can descide on that, unless we put the banners on our own sites.

I've also tried to tell my friends about this place, but not many of my friends are into quake.., so they aren't very interresetd.

Fret not my red citrus friend, every option we rule out progress.

Actually I was thinking we could do something Home Simpson did when he started his e-business. Cause a banner to pop up right in the middle of a fat computer nerd's porn download.

That would be effective, wouldn't it? Then again do we want that kind of interrest here?

I guess the password apparently not being mailed to new members is a slight drawback too...

As far as planetquake, I gotta disagree with your assessment. Sure, they've got the prerequisite number of kiddies there, (this board did in it's prime, and still does) but overall it's got good forum membership. I know one of the admins there, and trust me, he's no "kiddie".

Maybe you're right, 40. It just seems like every time I have a Quake-related problem and go there either to post or look for replies to other peoples' similar problems, I always come across the most idiotic people.

Then again, maybe its just because I hate their type of message board. UBB is by far the best, I think.

That is the reason that turned me away from Planetquake, I mean the UBB system just works so much better.

Yeah, I dislike their style of forum, but what the hell, that actually has nothing to do with the personalities there.

That's true, but a nice UBB that has nice regulars, beats a shitty board system (don't even know what it's called.) with nice people.

stick a big sigh saying "The Lounge has gone private!...again"

Seriously though I'm not sure why theres not many posters here anymore, its a great site.

I don't post at places like Quake3world much because you always get flamed.

I find the biggest problem is the frontpage. It is not so much for attracting people to the boards but moreso the frontpage. I mean, really, no dis to the news guys or anything, but the front page is very very very bland IMO. I mean, it doesn't touch on anything such as hardware tweaks or anything like that. The sad thing is I cam here originally back in...oh god...i was still going to NAIT so...early 1998...and I remember the anticipation of Q3 and all the mods happening for Quake2 and everything. The whole Quake scene LURED me here. But I think the thing that brought so many of us here has now become its hinderance (the domain for one). There are many many factors that truly need to be touched on here, but perhaps to get new blood, the whole site needs a new face. Survival of the fittest...ya know. Adapt or be conquered.

True, the domain name is an dissadvantake and well the fact that quake3world is the so called official board, and the link is on each and every Q3 CD.

Perhaps the link to the message board could be a little more dominant on the front page?

Anyway, I've started pimping this place to a few friends... let's see if it works.

I think that it might help now that the mail server has been fixed. . .
