sheesh they're playing all these love songs and Christmas songs on the radio all the time now.
Anyway.
SOOOOOOOO guess what my sister and my friend got me as a joint present for Christmas? Monkey 4! AAAHHHH!!!!
But....
AAAAHHHH!!! My computer! It needs a 3d accelerator card and mine is an S3ViRGE! (geez I need an upgrade) No matter I tried installing it anyway. You guys remember I have a 20gig in there as well as my 1.9 gig. Well my 1.9 gig is pretty full up... about 60 meg of freespace left.
Well so I tried installing it to my 20 gig... I have AT LEAST 18 gig of freespace left on that baby, but what does it say? It says that I don't have any space left! WHAT???? So I thought maybe it might be saying that because it might be trying to use up space in my C drive temp folder, so I did some C drive cleaning up so I have 220 meg free space on there (oooh) so I tried again... but no cigar! Do you guys have any idea what's going on? I could install onto my C drive... which I did.
It worked marginally... but there's a big white rectangle in the top left of my screen so I'll be using my sister's computer to play it (she's got a TNT2).
But could you tell me why it would tell me that there's no more space on my 20 gig and how I could fix it?

Wow wolf that is weird.
Are you absolutely positive you were not trying to install it to c?
BTW don't try putting it on c because your 1.9 GB drive is too full. You need all of that free space you now have left open.....(IMO)
Personally I would pull your 1.9 GB HD out and use the 20 GB for your operating system. Put the 1.9 GB as is on a shelf for emergency situations. Before you do that you could back-up all your settings (favorites, email, etc) to your slave drive.

try running scandisk. what could be hapening is a damage FAT and it is misreporting free disk space. Another thing that could be happening (less likely but possible if you do a lot of deleting ) is that you might have a shitload of lost clusters. The former is the more likely though.
Also, remember that it might also be saying that it is short on space because it may need to unpack some temporary files (most likely to your c:\windows\temp dir) and that you don't have enough to run the install...not that you don't have enough for the game in particular. This is actually the most likely.

As Pappy-R said when I tried to persuade him to send me a Gamespy shot glass, "The shipping would cost more than the thing is worth!"

Lindi I'm only in the UK...
Cac I'd do that but I like my setup. However if future problems occur... I would probably have to. Also I don't know where half my program disks are!
Snag, I ran scandisk through it, and wonder of wonders! It found a fatal error (or something like that) that said that it could cause the disk space to be misreported or to for the disk to run really slow, so I 'fixed' that.... but when I tried to install Monkey to D drive (my 20 gig)as a test the problem was still there! And yes I am absolutely POSITIVE that I am installing to my D drive. Also I thought about that temporary files being the problem... however if they were I wouldn't have been able to install to C drive in the first place.
Here's another thing... when I uninstalled it today off my C drive my C drive registered only the same amount of freespace as when I had it installed. Weird? yeah. I restarted... but no cigars!
I'm defragmenting at the mo... I'm using my sister's puter.
OK that's all you'll here from me for a while... I'm going off to France then to Germany for 10 days. be good!

lol...so nonchalant in Europe about going to places like that. I mean, for me to drive home to my parents for Christmas would be the equivilant of driving half way across Europe through god knows how many countries lol Well...maybe not half way across Europe...but it would be through a few countries

also, I tend to live by the rule "if all else fails format c:/u/s"
I would rather install the thing than spend hours upon hours getting frustrated and swearing especially when windows is involved...stupid piece of shit

I'll send you the card... if you pay for the postage, it's only a 8 Meg card, but it does even run Q3, not very well of course.
It never worked very well with the bundled drivers, but I've got a working set of drivers on my HD.

My brother has an i740 agp chip integrated into his MoBo. It shares system RAM, from 2MB to 11MB. It performs pretty well on Q3. at 640x480, 16bit hes getting around 50fps.

Wolfie, I'm sorry to tell you this, but the i740 is pretty much equivalent in power to a VooDoo3. Remeber, Voodoo3 is quite old compared to the i740. My friend and brother have similar specced systems, only videocard and amount of RAM differred, and they are benchmarking the same...

You have your data wrong, or chipset name wrong.
The i740 came out during the Riva128 times. I preforms WORSE then a Riva128(predicessor to the 128Zx, then TNT1), and most definitally wouldn't do as well as a Voodoo3 in Quake3

The Voodoo3 May Be old. But it can still run everything under the sun at a fairly good framerate. I got a GeForce2 in my main PC but we keep the Voodoo3 in my roommates PC because Voodoo3 runs everything full speed, and when I say everything I specifically mean Ultra HLE the N-64 emulator. No other video card on earth runs Ultra HLE at full speed. And Ultra HLE is the only way to Play Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina Of Time on the PC.

Sorry, but I saw the benchmarks, and the guy with the more RAM had the VooDoo3. I'll believe what I can see...

I never tried Q3 with my adapter, but I lent it to afriend of mine who did. He managed to get something like 20 FPS @ 640x480 with it. Not too good, but it does atleast run q3, eh?
It's good for desktop stuff though.

My brother has a Celeron 600, 64MB of RAM,and an i740, he's benchmarking 2000 under 3dmark2000. Does a little more than just desktop stuff.
