My name is Bob, and I am Canadian. I am a minority in Vancouver, Banff, and every casino in this country. I was born in 1972, yet I am responsible for some Native's great great grandfather who screwed himself out of his land in the 1800's. I pay import tax on cars made in Ontario. I am allowed to skydive and smoke, but not allowed to drive without a seat belt. All the money I make up until mid July must go to paying taxes. I live and work among people who believe Americans are ignorant. These same people cannot name this country's new Territory. Although I am sometimes forced to live on Kraft Dinner and don't have a pot to piss in, I sleep well knowing that I've helped purchase a nice six figure home in Vancouver for some unskilled Chinese refugee. Although they are unpatriotic and constantly try to separate, Quebec still provides my nation's Prime Ministers. 95% of my nation's international conflicts are over fish. I'm supposed to call black people African Canadians, although I'm sure none of them have ever been to Africa, or east of Halifax for that matter. I believe that paying a 200% tax on alcohol is fair. I believe that same tax on gasoline is also fair. Even if I have no idea what happened to that old rifle my grandfather gave me when I was 14, I will be considered a criminal if I don't register it. I DO know Jeff from Toronto. I often badmouth the United States, and then vacation there three times a year. I'm led to believe that some lazy ass unionized broom pusher who makes $30 an hour is underpaid and therefore must go on strike, but paying $10 an hour to someone who works 12 hour shifts at forty below on an oil rig is fair. I believe that paying $30 million for 3 stripes (The Voice of Fire) by the National Art Gallery was a good purchase, even though 99% of this country didn't want it, or will ever see it. When I look at my pay stub and realize that I take home a third of what I actually make, I say "Oh well, at least we have better health care than the Americans" It must bail out farmers when their crops are too wet or too dry, because I control the rain. My National Anthem has versions in both official languages, and I don't know either of them. Canada is the highest taxed nation in North America, the biggest military buffer for the United States, and the number one destination for fleeing boat people. I am not an angry white male. I am an angry broke taxpayer. My name is Bob, and I am Canadian.

BTW, as great as that is...I don't think many Americans will "get" it. Unless they somehow get Molson's "I Am" commercials. Funny, first time i have been to the US since I was 12 this past weekend...nobody had heard of The Tragically Hip, DuMaurier cigarettes, nobody knew the Prime Ministers name (somebody even asked what it was like having a queen rule my country...uhm..yeah...k). I was made fun of for the way I pronounced roof, garage and the letter Z. They thought I was rich and had a cast iron stomach because of what wedrank and how much we drank. I got a funny look at Burger King cause I asked for poutine...then I found out they didn't have it (let alone have a fucking clue what it was) and then asked for gravy for my fries and got yet another, "where the hell did you come from?" looks. But, the cool thing was, we had a hell of a time. It was fun. And I will do it again. I personally believe North America should truly be borderless, because given the diversities, I got a true feelinf for the similarities too. When I was 12 I never was truly exposed to the actual differences...having gone there with my parents. But now, seeing through grown eyes (and at times crossed and squinted due to booze ) I realize, that the US and Canada should be really one big happy country (except for Quebec...they wanna be separate, fine. Get the hell of our land and then they can go). And this is really gonna be an inevitability. This has been talked about primarily in the west...out of lack of appreciation from the east. Anyhow...my name is Snag, and I am an Albertan (although I recently made a huge mistake and came down to Saskatchewan to work rigs!)

I just can't understand why America spends so much money on its military. Well, so many other countries do, too. I read some statistics somewhere a while ago about countries spending so many hundreds of billions of dollars on military, and a few thousand on its people. Most of the military equipment needs to be replaced in a decade or so, so there's another couple of billion. I know it's all just sitting there to scare other countries away from attacking, but it's still disgusting. And just to add to this, Australia (where I live) is more than happy to buy four brand new aircraft carriers, whilst it doesn't even have enough aircraft to put on the decks of these things, yet we still see teachers and educators and emergency workers as greedy when they ask for a small pay rise. Think of this though, in the late 70's, early 80's and even now, Alberta is the backbone of Canada as far as the economy goes. It has the most oil wells, it has the oilsands, forestry, mining, coal, we ship 2/3 of the electricity we produce to other provinces or the US, it has consistantly had the most stable economy even throughout the recession of the 90's and continues to do so. It was also voted the best province in Canada to live. I can sympathize with BC and I don't quite believe they get screwed over quite as badly as Alberta...hell, I know it. But in either case, the point is the west has always gotten screwed over by the east. Quebec thinks they are so fuc*ing special, Ontario thinks it is the center of the universe, the maritime provinces are a drain on the rest of us, Manitoba can't help their situation cause it is one big slough (no offence but it is ) and Saskatchewan is so poor only because of errors people that came before me by hundreds of years tricked the Indians out of their land and now they don't pay taxes...I think the western provinces should have had a referendum to see who wanted to separate because I think we have more of a reason and would be able to survive as a sovereign nation...unlike Quebec who expected to separate and still use our dollar, and keep our federal buildings, bases, etc...they live in a pipedream! The fact is Canada doesn't need Quebec. They do need the western provinces. Without the west, Canada would crumble. Without Quebec, at least we wouldn't have to listen to their bitching about losing a culture that was lost decades ago.
