Ok, it got on a my nerves a little, but I let it go. But then as I pick up the box of honey combs cerial, I notice a little quiz The question was"How many bytes are in a mega byte?" I'm thinking they better not piss me off. I look on the bottom for their answer and it is this: 1,000,000 GRRRRRRRRRRR!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO STUPID ASS HOLES so I write honey combs because this problem continually pisses me off and they send me back a free coupon for more honey combs Then the problem gets worse. I see an IBM commercial. IBM OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW! they did it to! they said that 1KB is 1000, a meg is 1 million, etc... NO IDIOTS!
ok look lets set the record straight here people.... byte = 8 bits kilo byte = 1024 bytes mega byte = 1048576 bytes (kilo byte * 1024) giga byte = 1073741824 bytes (1 meg * 1024) tera byte = 1099511627776 bytes (1 gig * 1024)
Now that we are all educated, stop saying its 1,000,000 for a meg and bullshit like that Computers don't go by our decimal number system. If anyone disagrees with me, go make a file of the sizes above, and then click on it in file manager and it will say this: 1.00 mb and that is for 1048576 bytes if you clicked on a file of 1000000 it would say .95 mb, which is 1 million divided by 1048576.

Int, there is something you should know. Technically Mega, is 1,000,000. Because that's what the Latin word means. It's because computers use binary as their primary language, an 8 digit binary string forms one byte . . . it's all very agravating I know. But that's why you see a megabyte defined as 1,000,000. The worst example of this is Compaq(sorry Boba, if you're around) they define 1 Giga Byte as 1,000,000,000 bytes in all of there computer pricing signs and materials.------------------

Well, my drive is a 10gig hard drive, it says so on the drive label, and it also says so when I see how much total disk space is on my drive, it is 1073741824 bytes.going by the dumb meaning of the word, would tell you thats a little more than 10 gigs. well, divide it by 1024, then by 1024 again, and then by 1024 again. You get 10. I don't care what the meaning of the word is, on a computer it isn't 1,000,000,000

The sad thing is, your the kind of person that would do something like that just to get the attention your not getting from your parents. Dude, find an adult you trust to talk with or something.

They do all the rounding to make thinks simplier for people that don't have background in computers. Like if you went into a store not knowing about computers and the sticker on the computer said 20 gig hard drive*, it's really 19.0 gigs... which also basically false advertising, but they protect their ass with 1 gig defined to be 1,000,000,000 bytes. Sure, I'd like that extra 1 gig, but I'm not going to complain.------------------ ...TheKiller
