I'll admit that the computer I'm currently using (hp paviilion)sucks to start with, I'm not a huge fan of the "name brand" off the shelf pc's. it's specs are 1.6ghz pentium4, 256 megs of ram ddr, card I installed was an geforce4 mx 440. I'm thinking the motherboard is inadequate and can't support the geforce to it's full potential because with a system like this you would think you could do better than 40 fps in q3 and 60 fps in q2. I was advised to turn on the nsync function in both game and nvidia menu but no increase in fps.

Main reason is the GeForce4MX cards are nothing but slightly pumped up GeForce 2's. THere not great and lack alot of shader support.

I will make the best FPS ever

Assuming you're still reading this
Your video card is most likely the bottleneck. Make sure you have antialiasing turned off in your advanced display settings control panel. As I recall, it is enabled by default on Geforce 4 series cards, and for the MX's this is bad news performance wise. Like Kei said, they are pretty much just Geforce 2's. So, go out on the net and find some guides to configuring Quake 2/3 to run on Geforce 2, and you should be all set.

There's a good guide -->here<-- for some tweaks that will help you out. You should be able to make it a lot more playable even if it won't look all that great.
