Quake starts up fine and runs beautifully on my Celeron 1.2Ghz, Win XP Pro. The problem comes when I begin gameplay. For no reason at all, at any random moment, it just exits the game back to windows. What would this be ?

Windows XP, run the game with some OS compatibility, like in windows 98

That's a silly response. Q3 runs fine with XP.
Try updating your video drivers.

Is that plain ol' quake or are you trying to run GLQuake for Windows? I have managed to run GLQuake just fine.

Also the Tanebrae mod works with win2k and WinXP.

Last but not least, you should keep in mind that DeskJet is only trying to help you so mind the tone of your posts. You are by the way not making it easy by NOT specifying your hardware more, like for example which video adapter or soundcard you are using!

kthxbye.

hahahahah nothing to worry at all... it's for all Quake... but yes it's good to specify wich Quake...

I've heard a lot from people that Quake 3 was closing. Someone told me that it's windows XP and when the game run with a compatibility of another OS it could solve the problem.

I must agree that since I have XP, I have the same problem, but I didn't have it when I was running windows 2000
