I have just installed Q3 (1.27g) on my sister-in-laws computer and it sometimes locks up in the menu system. It mainly happens when I exit the game or try to change display settings. It only when I use the mouse to go thru the menus. I can use the keyboard in the menus and it doesn't seem to happen.

The game itself works fine - I gave it a good work out. Its only in the menu system where it freezes.

The system is a PIII 733, 128ram, Asus Geforce256 (my old card) with the detonator 21.83 drivers. The mouse is something called a "Trekker" - (sounds like something Captain Kirk would use). Sorry, I don't know the motherboard.

Any suggestions

Is it a usb mouse? a ps/2 mouse? Do you use any kind of adapter usb/ps2? what kind of drivers for your mouse have you installed on your deck?

It's a ps2 mouse and it uses the deault win98 drivers. I did find out that the 'Trekker' is actually a Microsoft OEM version of its mouse.

Mmmm... On my Mac, weirdly enough, the main menu is about at 4 fps and everthing else on the game plays at about 15-20fps. So I'd guess it's how the menu system is done, and I'm not surprised the game itself works well.

Let's start by the beginning.

Updates - Did you do your Windows homework and updated her system?
DX - Last version of it?
in DXDiag, no "beta" drivers anywhere to be found, all certified?

Sorry for the lame answer but to use a common visualization, must start by checking if the power is plugged before opening a computer's inside

Have a nice day
Mike

I would also uninstall the mouse and only install "basic" drivers for the mouse. No funny stuff/software that come with the mouse.

I'd have to agree with that. I was having a lot of problems with the ?$#?$#@ worst invention of the world: the "smooth scrolling". Usually, for every %#%$#@ing mouse I ever had, I simply went to the IE options and uncheck it. For the Logitech wireless, it wasn't working. Oh well... But then, when the double-click went astray after a "Win2K security update", that was it. I tried to look for the latest drivers... no avail, they WERE the latest drivers. So I removed the drivers. Believe it or not, the cordless mouse worked like a charm with the M$ drivers! Ok, I might drain the batt a little bit faster or something like that, but at least, I was able to double-click... and the %#%#!@$#ing smooth scrolling was finally off! Yay!

Have a nice night
Mike

Wowbagger - She has DX 8.1 and all the drivers are certified.
DGhost - the mouse drivers are the default windows ones. I didn't install any others.

I'll try the smooth scrolling and point release 1.31 to see if that works.

Thanks Guys.

Just to be on the safe side, I would uninstall all the mouse drivers and reboot. Don't install any drivers after thath and try it like that.
