We have two comps with the capability of running q3, but it doesn't like both of us having the same cd key online... any way around this, besides buying another copy?

This made me think of something else as well. 2 machines on a lan, one running a q3 dedicated server, the other playing on that server. Would you need 2 cd-keys to do this?

If it's a LAN with no outside connection, then q3a will not have any way of connecting to the authentication server at id-software. So basically it should work.

It works for a local lan only, I do it. Installed Q3 on both PC's with the same CD key. Start a server on one pc, search for 'local' servers in the Q3 browser on the other PC, and it's there. Jump right in and start fragging.
If you are both attempting to connect to an 'outside' server, that won't work, need separate cd-keys.
