I'm working on something for Quake 3 (very hush hush at the moment :0) and I'm trying to get this 'thing' working. I've received a .zip of files, they unzipped into the q3 directory (NOT baseq3) and I've been told that to get it working all I have to do is create a shortcut to Q3 with this line added:
+set fs_game test
Every time I attempt this I get an error box coming up that says "The name: "'C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\quake3.exe' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and filename are correct." For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this working.

If I try writing fs_game test in the console it tells me that it's write protected.

Anyone got any ideas on how I'm supposed to solve this?

i'm not really sure
but a thought came to mind,
like maybe if you clicked quake 3, and went tto properties, could you make it a read only file?

Thanks for trying, grumps, but I found out the problem.
This is just for anyone else with a similar problem:

Instead of adding the +set fs_game... part before the end quotes, add it afterwards. In my case it should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\quake3.exe" +set fs_game test

And NOT

"C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\quake3.exe +set fs_game test"
