Has anyone of you guys tried the latest preview release of Nscape6? Geez, what a memory hogg.., hope they improve on that before they release the final. I'm not so sure I liked it othervise either, guess I've gotten too used to the IE look and feel.

I somehow hope they'd make a browser with just the essentials, I installed Netscape and got all kinds of other stuff like net2phone etc. at the same time...

I must admit I did a "full install" so I should have expected all the bells&whistles, but man I dunno it just felt a bit much for a browser...

The new "skin" looked qood, but I guess the memory usage just slowed everything down... and I've got 265 megs of ram in my box. So surfing the webb felt like trying to run in waist deep water.

What did your brother mean by "crusty" BTW?

Yeah just got Opera 4.02 and it is a bit funky, but pretty damn fast somehow, and it uses one fifth of the memory used by Netscape 6PR3.

he meant like, ok but bad around the edges...

I hate NN it pisses me off as a graphic designer - any damn page you make in any web page maker (dreamweaver frontpage pagemill) werks perfect in IE yet it is TOTALLY different in NN!!!!!!!!!!

...and what pisses me off even more is the fact that they are all sposed to run off EXACTLY the same coding stuff!!!!!

Batsards!!!

Yeah, that one of the most annoying features of these browsers...

I think that NN6PR3 was a little worse than just "crusty".

..and software sucks sometimes too

I've been trying Opera 4.02 out for a couple of days now. On the upside I've got to say that I'm positively surprised here, it's quite small, doesn't require ridiqulous amounts of system resourses and above all it's pretty damn fast. The interface is also quite comfortable, takes a little getting used to, but when you do it really feels natural.

On the downside, it doesn't display all pages quite like it should. I have had problems reading the frontpage of this page, and also I've had problems posting here with it.

All in all I now use I.E. for my posting needs and Opera for general surfing, if you've got the time and energy I really recomend giving it a spin.

~Lindi, In Opera 4.02 they have what they
call User ID's, Go to File > Preferences >
Connection > and select >
Identify as MSIE 5.0 It does cure some problems with some pages.
