I've enjoyed Quake and Quake II along with Packs and am bored. Now I need a fix of some TCs. But every time I find a TC on the internet, the "TC" is being reworked, "delayed", "Error 404", is stll in the brag stage. Isn't there any working, 'finished' TCs available? Please, don't suggest those at Fileplanet, or Gameplanet. You pay for a service there, they tsake you money and don't gived back squat. They're another internet scam. Right up there with getting a diploma or ink cartridges on line. It's been a frustrating 3 hours of searching. I'll have to be a 'snit' and say a big no to fileplanet, gameplanet, and Gamespy since they store freeware and charge for it. If, (big if), they re-imburse the authors of the software financially, maybe, I'd use it. But I never pay for something that is free - that's dumb. I pay for something that has a price, not a scam behind it. And those guys are scammers.I cannot beleive that it will be "72 HOURS" before I get my turn to download. What a lie. It's a ruse to get people into thinking they are only goinmg to get their file, a TC in this case, by buying a online service one might use only once, or in my case, very little. On top of their scam, they try to sucker people into starting a download, and makeing them walk through several pages of BS only for the user to find a long wait or buy into their scam. Any link I find that points to any of those scammers, I avoid. I'll just go without thanks. BTW - Yes Total Conversions. Too many TC sites don't carry anything but news that hasn't ben updated in years, and no files or files that link to those scammers. S

honestly there is always an alternative than fileplanet.. Sidrial TC for Quake 3 - single player Excellent TC, but it's not long enough to my taste.. try it After that there is: The Dark Conjunction - single player again There is some mirror.. yes fileplanet is at the top for downloading it... but like I said there is always some mirrors. Lindi: Yes. FTP use to be one of my first choices when searching, but even Lycos FTP sold out to commercial greed. It's getting frustrating. When I found my way through Quake Boards and found TC's, and found my to the TC, I found out they were only in the making and some of the most recent "News" messages were 2 years old! Looks like Quake I and II and probably even III are on the same shelf along with Pac Man and Donkey Kong I don't blame the guys who were making TCs for Quake, Doom, Hexen, Duke and so on for quitting. It must be tough to put together a team, keep them together, and finalize a game TC if most of the team are busy playing new games that need faster CPUs, more ram, more space, more Vcards and such. It's a lot more fun playing anew game than trying to keep an old one going. No? DGGhost
Thanks - Single player is what I was after. Gotta feed the need to play. I had tgried Google and kept coming up with Fileplanet and the other con artists. Anything less than those guys and I was reading about TC's to come - messages, as pointed out above, that were years old ... lot of messages, no TCs. I played the Quake, Duke, Doom, Hexen and the such on a P200. Not the best choice but they played - slow in some cases when there was lots of stuff in some rooms, but OK anyway. Then I got a faster computer 733MHZ, 256 meg ram and first thing I did was grab some game CDs. Well, turns out the company that makes the computer says that sound in Dos isn't suported by them, but they have Dos sound drivers, which lock the computer when used. Go figure - I finally get a computer that can play smooth and it doesn't have sound in Dos. Ramble mode off. Thanks guys - appreciate it. -------------------- Because I said so - that's why!

No sound while playing a DOS game happen often. You can make it work but you'll have to manually configure your sound card (irq, memory adress) wich can be a pain in the ass.If you are looking for more single player TC then I suggest you browse the archive of this website (the search too of google to look in a web page is very usefull in this case). There is a lot of post about some single player TC/mod. Have fun! -------------------- DGhost "Everybody knows Rocket Launchers have proximity safety sensors that lockdown the firing mechanism to prevent point blank use, not my fault, stupid game."

DGhost, I managed to grab several TCs.
After the Fall - Final Release EMPIRES : Total Conversion Of Quake Street Fighter Quake Final and WWII Quake I snapped them because they were big. As for dsound in Dos, I get music, but no effects. I got one of the first "Desknotes", a crummy attempt at a cross between a Desktop and Notebook computer. They tell me sound in Dos won't work - period. I guess that's why they have sound drivers for Dos - go figure. I've tried making them work but it blows out sound altogether. One has to reboot, reset Bios to Optimal settings - just to get windows sound back, and believe it or not, reset the clock too! Now figure out that one. The manufactuirers reseller, Multimedia-Design-Solutions said that no one supports Dos games anymore - not for several years and therefore, is why Dos sound isn't supported. I found out that they stuck me with a illegal copy of Win98SE. So I'm not surprised they would know nothing about Dos and good games like Quake. I set up a web page about it - it's kind of funny - at Click here One has to take a stand As for looking for TCs here, well, it's a Quake 3 (shootem up) right? I tried out the Q3 demo and though the graphics are good, I don't see the challenge. I liked Quake 2 and the 2 added CDs because there was a goal - get this, turn on that, shut down those.... Ooops - I'm blathering again... One day when I get a comp with Dos sound - Till then, these DLed TCs are going on a CD {This would look better if I could Preview before posting} -------------------- Because I said so - that's why!

Well if you are talking about Dsound it's the DirectSound from the DirectX package made by Microsoft. Of course it won't be supported in Dos since it's for windows only. The link you gave me point to a webpage that talk about a laptop. The challenge in Quake 3 is not about playing it single but to play online against others players. You should definitively try that. I'm playing threewave CTF on the Pingdom. You should try that it's really tough but so fun! Damn, now I wish I hadn't skipped most of my french classes in HS .I gotta ask, what's with the nail polish? Not that I find it that weird, it's just an odd colour. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.
