Okay gang, I'm not gonna post that yet on the website but be prepared to see some major change on q3arena.com soon. But I've got a couple of questions that I'm wondering and I would like to know what you think of that first.1- You are on the forum of q3arena.com but do you ever read the news also on the main page? 2- With Doom 3 coming, do you think that Quake 3 (or any Quake) is dying? 3- Are you interrested in Quake 3 mod related news? What kinf of news do you wanna know and wich one you don't f***ing care? 4- On a more personnal note, what do you think about planetquake? Their the biggest in town for any Quake related news and their tough to match since they've got people working for them full time who get a salary for that. Q3arena.com is more of a volunteer job. (if you want to know my humble opinion, I like planetquake, but they've got so many ads that get on my nerve.. ) I'm asking this since, like I said, some major changes are coming. Basically I want to make that site more popular than it is right now (I've been here since the beggining of quake2.com :P ) and Doom3 is coming and we will cover it for sure. I alreader spoken with the bosses of this site and they are willing so far to let me run a couple of ideas that I've got. I'm just wondering where the readers stand in this (i.e. if you care or not). Thank you! quote: 1- You are on the forum of q3arena.com but do you ever read the news also on the main page?
I basically read everything that's new on the page. I do not look at the POTD however.
quote: 2- With Doom 3 coming, do you think that Quake 3 (or any Quake) is dying?
It all depends on its multiplayer abilities. For example, even if R2CW is really great, with a lot of multiplayer and such, it haven't meant the end of Q3. quote: 3- Are you interrested in Quake 3 mod related news? What kinf of news do you wanna know and wich one you don't f***ing care?
I love to know there are new Mac-compatible mods (as I am a Mac user). I enjoy reading about what's up lately. Latest mods, good or bad. As for the update to the (hardly ever) much anticipated "Eyeballs Mod" v1.04 that doesn't crash your machine as much as the 1.03 and that uses less than 98% of your CPU, well, I don't especially care. ;-) No, what I care personally are the latest mod news for highly-used mods (like GTKRadiant) and maps, as well as to know there are new mods out there that (might) interest me. quote: 4- On a more personnal note, what do you think about planetquake? Their the biggest in town for any Quake related news and their tough to match since they've got people working for them full time who get a salary for that. Q3arena.com is more of a volunteer job. I love PlanetQuake for one precise thing: the Plans. However, since I have a finger software on my comp, well, I've put the two people I care about in my fingering list and I check them everyday (John and Graeme). quote: Thank you!
You're welcome

1-I read all the new stuff on the front page.2-I play quake 3 still, RtCW still has most of my attention though, perhaps having some news on ALL Quake 3 engine games would bring in the viewers! 3-Yup, I like quake 3 mods. News good! 4-Planetquake and gamespy have much too much advertising. If I can find the same info on another site, I will. You're welcome -------------------- Talk is cheap, so is my signature.

1- You are on the forum of q3arena.com but do you ever read the news also on the main page? "Q3Arena.com Forums" is linked directly to here in my Links bar. Honestly, I never pass by the main site, simply because PlanetQuake usually has that news and more by the time I come to the forums. It's also just a matter of habit - open up 5 windows and go to CNN, Polycount, PlanetQuake, Q3Arena.com Forums and Polycount forums. I don't really bother much with Quake3 news, as I don't play any mods.2- With Doom 3 coming, do you think that Quake 3 (or any Quake) is dying? Yep. I think Q3 has been dying for a while as it didn't have the substance that Quake and Q2 had (single player, etc.) Also, the split between HPBs and LPBs is even greater now than it was 'back in the day' when everyone had 200-400 ping and it's too frustrating. 3- Are you interrested in Quake 3 mod related news? What kinf of news do you wanna know and wich one you don't f***ing care? I don't play any mods (hardly even Q3) anymore, but I like the community. If news is around on a cool-looking mod I'll have a look at the map, character and weapon renders but that's about as far as I'll go. 4- On a more personnal note, what do you think about planetquake? It's good for news and sometimes an interesting article or POTD, but that's about it. Their hosted sites are the greatest. However, I think PQ has gone downhill over the past year or so, Dear Mynx has gone, the Mailbag is utter crap, the humor they try to inject into PQ just seems lame. Maybe I'm just getting old and want something new with games, but all I ever see is the same old thing. A Counter-Strike/Urban Terror clone mod with beautifully rendered (unskinned) weapons that will never make it into the game and the mod will never be finished. But I digress PlanetQuake is a good resource and central to the community, but I don't know if I really like it. /me goes away feeling all bitter...

1. I have the forums bookmarked. I don't even know what the main page looks like.2. I don't see Q3 dying anytime soon. At least not with me and the crowd I play with. And it's a big crowd and we play a lot. 3. I play 2 mods. JB/POW and Threewave. I keep up with the news surrounding those two already. Don't care about any others. 4. Planetquake? Where's that?
I basically check in here everyday because there's good people here and I've made a few good friends since I started coming here. Wanna liven things up? Get Horka Thane back -------------------- Shut-up and fish

I do not go to any quake related sites frontpage anymore though I do hangout in the forums. I, like many others visit when something new comes out and will do so soon.It must kinda suck having people not read the new stuff on the front page and link to the forums. I appoligize for this but I am very busy these days with my baby. I do not like Planetquake. They have gotten too corporate but I understand how revenue is needed at some point. Hello DGhost! What I don't get with quake3world.com is why are they copying the news from planetquake.com? It's the same thing on both site, only the background and menu are different... Or maybe planetquake.com is copying from quake3world.com but that would surprise me.. :PThx for your comments gang! -------------------- DGhost "Everybody knows Rocket Launchers have proximity safety sensors that lockdown the firing mechanism to prevent point blank use, not my fault, stupid game."

Hmm, I guess I should put in my two cents worth too.I'm just going to respond to your questions as a whole, DGhost. When I first started coming here, I used to skim the news, mostly cause I wanted to know what the latest point release was. Other than that I really wasn't interested in anything else, that hasn't really changed much. I still have the main page bookmarked, but I haven't read anything there in months now, to tell the truth, I haven't visited the site in quite some time. I don't really think that Quake in general is dying, as far as I know, Quake, and Q2 still have a strong following. I think though, that the idea of a site completely dedicated to the Quake genre (or any other game for that matter), has lost it's novelty. There are exceptions, Planetquake is great, not just because of it's dedication, but because it diversifies and changes as it needs to, when Doom3 comes out, it'll still be Planetquake, just with q1, q2, q3, D3. The Mod of the week section has got to be my favorite. I don't usually play mods (save for ThreewaveCTF and OSP) but I like being able to check the different ones out. Of course, since I had to go back to Dial-up, I haven't played much of anything. Bottom line: Diversify, don't just stick to one game or even one genre, try and branch out a little more. And don't use quake3world as a model for anything. They've only survived cause what's his nut(one of the Id guys) posts there. That place is just NOT appealing to me. -------------------- “I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.” “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” --Dr. Stephen Hawking.

I know that I can't cover only one game. q3arena.com is mostly focusing on IDSoftware games and games that use the ID engines. But now I'm almost alone to covers all this. Mayhemm is gone, he's back to school and I'm suppose to have someone who started last monday to help me out but he told me that his cousin was sent to the hospital and he's gonna be with him all week long. So I'm alone to run the news. My best game is still Quake 3. But with my life it's really tough t have the time to play. I'm at the last level at MoH and I didn't have the time yet to finished it. And I don't wanna talk about RtCW, I didn't even make half of the maps... :P I work as a nework admin and my job take a lot of time, add with that, that I psot news about Quake 3, sometimes I've got to post news about mods that I don't care. And I've got to find some times to give to my girlfriend and my friends, it's pretty tough. I'm trying to post quality news bout the world of Quake 3 so that I don't bore people to death with some planetishquake news about a guys who released one textures in beta forms to use only during a night of full moon to use on some weapons that no one care about :P When Doom 3 will be released, q3arena.com will follow.. for your information the founder of the page already bought the domain name d00m.com The name will change (like from quake2.com to q3arena.com) but we will still cover news about IDsoftware games. And after Doom 3 it's gonna be Quake 4. For the moments, the co founder told me that they were only trying to survive until Doom 3. In average now, we get about 2500 hits par day on the webpage. That's pretty low compare to the 60 000 hits per day this site used to get. I want to make it better because I love Quake, I love IDsoftware. I do it for the readers, but first of all I do it for myself. -------------------- DGhost "Everybody knows Rocket Launchers have proximity safety sensors that lockdown the firing mechanism to prevent point blank use, not my fault, stupid game."

A little late but here are my answers to your questions.1.- Yes, I always read the news. 2.- Again yes, I think Quake3 is dying. I don't have stoped to think why but it is not like used to be when Quake2, I agree with Red in that. 3.- I am not playing Q3 at the moment (RTCW) and I don't have it installed on my system so I am not very interested in new mods or so, but I like to read about news from ID, new FPS shooters using Q3 engine, flashback news like your expierence with Alpha version... 4.- I like PQ, but I think there is too many information that many times I don't need. I like it because you can find everything there, the hosted sites are great and I like very much the pic of the day (but only when the pics are kind of personal like "where you rock" theme). Anyway I spend more time in this site than in PQ, perhaps it is because I find this site more close to me, more familiar... I don't know but I like all the gang here. Hope I have help you and I like what you are trying to do.

Actually it doesn't surprise me that people come directly here without reading the mainpage. But my purpose is to make to page more popular as it was before... FYI Just for the stats this week (and the week finish tomorrow at midnight) I already had more readers than last week (about 2000 hits more) It's not so much but it's better than a kick in the ass... :POkay I'm gonna go try sparth by Nunuk.. -------------------- DGhost "Everybody knows Rocket Launchers have proximity safety sensors that lockdown the firing mechanism to prevent point blank use, not my fault, stupid game."
