I let my daughter play on Q3 last night and now when I try to load it all I get is a message on the top of the boot window that says "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem". I have tried reinstalling Q3 and my video drivers but still the same thing. Does anyone have a clue?

Sorry I didn't exactly give much info in my last post. I am running W2k SP3 on a Biostar Motherboard, AMD 2100+, 1 Gig ram, Creative Audigy 2 soundcard, Geforce 4 Ti4200 64 Meg ram I have all the latest drivers except for the NVidia drivers because I have read there is a problem with them and was reluctant to download and install them. Besides that until last night Q3 has been running great. I know it that something happened.

You can try deleting your q3config.cfg in the baseq3 folder (or better yet just rename it to q3config.bak) and let it make a new one once you start Q3. If that doesn't help I would uninstall the vid drivers and go get new ones. If you don't want the latest ones just install some tried and true ones like the 27.42's or whatever. You can get about any version you want here. If it still doesn't work, you may need to use the Detonator Destroyer to wipe out all traces of nvidia drivers and then install new ones. You can get that utility at Guru3d also and I think it comes with a readme.

Thank you DAm. I have tried most of what you suggested with the exception of the Destroyer software utility. I been running the 41.09 version without any problems. I still think that it was something my daughter did but who knows for sure. I will try the rebuild of the config.cfg file again and get the utility and wipe my video driver out and try installing it again and see what happens. Will let you know what happens.

I'm not sure it's the problem, but also check if the following file is under the right directory (to do so, make sure that you can see system/hidden files)

opengl32.dll must be under the \winnt\system32\ folder or if it's there, you could make a copy of the file and copy it in the Quake 3 folder directly.

Thanks for the info. I checked on that and it was there. I was still thinking that it was my video drivers so I tried that a couple more times but still the same. As I have my OS on a seperate partion I finally decided to format and reinstall Win2k. After doing that and installing all the drivers again it was working correctly. That was the hard way I know but sometimes with Windows it really is the easiest. Since I keep all my programs on a seperate partion it isn't really that big a deal I just don't like to do it. Thanks to everyone that spoke up. It is always nice to know that there is someone out there that is willing to offer some help. This forum ROCKS.
