I've just purchased Quake III from Walmart. I have a Sony Vaio laptop with a NeoMagic 256XL+ video card with 8meg of RAM. Suposedly this thing suports 3D exceleration and all of the rest of my games that require it will run with software 3D exceleration. However QuakeIII dumps this out to me.

Did you try GLSetup? It should be on your Quake3 CD or you can get it at http://www.glsetup.com/

That will find your video card's latest drivers. I'd say 90% of video problems that occur when playing Quake3 for the first time can be fixed with this.

Good luck! And if that doesn't help just come back and we'll see what we can do.

OpenGL doenst suport my Video Card. And I just got the newest drivers for my card.
Still the same problem.

What do you think?

If you vid card don't support OpenGl. Quake3 will never run. Sorry dude.

PS. I havn't seen a laptop that had a good vid card yet. Has ne one?

got a friend who has a Mac laptop (last year i think). i played on a network with him--he doesnt get that bad fps..not that good either. but there was a picture of him and another friend of mine at shugashack playing q3 on his laptop on top of a mountain. it was a while back..but it was an accomplishment.
